Health Issues The Everything Covid 19 Thread

Ugh, the nursing home called to tell me that my Dad has Covid. Their systems are down because of the global Microsoft outage, and they couldn’t call me until they could find my number on paper. He apparently told them that he was feeling very weak and tired last night, so they tested him and he was positive. He doesn’t have any other symptoms at the moment and even wanted to go outside this morning. He is so compromised and can’t take the medications for Covid because of kidney and heart issues, so I am hoping he can fight it off. He is also 89. They wouldn’t tell me how many cases they have, but I know it started last week with a couple of cases.

Any good vibes, thoughts, prayers, whatever you do would be much appreciated. Many thanks!

@PTree15 So sorry, I will have your dads recovery in my thoughts.
I don't know what to think about whether there is a resurgence of covid, or whether it's brought back up with testing again. People certainly have been getting 'colds', 'flu', but I have only recently been aware of anyone getting a test, even after seeing a doctor. I went to urgent care last week with a prolonged cough and given x-rays,, but not given nor asked about covid

A co worker was out this week with what he said was the worst sickness with temp he ever had-he did get tested but negative
All my at home tests are out dated

will definitely send healing thoughts... and peace for you

it is definitely still around as my sister and BIL both picked it up in Saskatchewan while they were visiting their daughter and family - they attended a small christian convention and her daughter and family all got it and many others at the convention - they thought it was a cold and so drove back to Ontario staying with friends/family along the way... I don't know of anyone else who picked it up from them - they are fine and hopefully your dad will be also

Thank you both! He was doing a little better today. The nurse had told me he didn't have a lot of symptoms, but when my sister talked to him today, he said he had felt awful yesterday. I don't know if he was honest with the staff about how he actually felt, but he said he was better than yesterday. He doesn't have a fever, cough or sore throat, but my sister said his voice didn't sound normal, kind of like when you're getting laryngitis. He's not laboring with breathing, which is good. I think he's just really tired and achy.

So now I have to sweat out a possible COVID exposure. I went up to New Hampshire yesterday for my great-nephew's birthday party (he's 8 now), and one of the attendees tested positive today for COVID. My sister and I both sat at the same table outside on a deck as the person who tested positive, and I stood next to the person inside when we did the cake and sang Happy Birthday to my great-nephew. I can't tell you how $#@#$% tired I am of this.

I did notice that this person was coughing a bit, but she's a heavy smoker, so I attributed her coughing to the smoking. Luckily, she didn't cough near me, but we did talk to each other. I'm supposed to have company in two weeks from out of state, and I so hope I don't get the ^%$#!!@#$ virus and have to cancel everything. We are supposed to go to a concert while they are here along with a few breweries. I hope my sister and everybody else at the party escapes it as well.

Hopefully your immune system is good and you will be fine. 💙🤞🏻

My son in law was in NYC all week on business and came home Saturday feeling really sick. He keeps testing negative...his most recent test was this morning and he already feels better. My daughter was flipping out because they are going on vacation in ten days. But so far so good.

I'm mad that I didn't go for another Covid booster in April. I've been directly exposed a few times and keep managing to avoid it. I don't want to get the booster now because I'd rather get it in October with the flu shot (not directly together but two weeks apart). There seems to be an uptick in covid cases though and I do not mask when I go anywhere. I have to decide what I want to do.

Thank you! Yes, I am hoping to escape it. It's just so tiring having it be so potentially disruptive. So far everyone from the party is OK, but it's only been two days, so we'll see.

My dad is doing better, but he can't leave his room until Sunday, the end of his 10-day isolation. He did call me today and he sounded so much better. He said he felt better, too. Fingers crossed that he doesn't have any ill effects long term. I'm just so glad he was able to call me. He was like, don't come near this place until I give ya the all-clear. Too funny. He' said he'll just call me every day, and I said that would be just fine. :)

I haven't got a booster since 2022, I believe. I would have to check my vaccination card. I didn't want to get the one in April because I'd read that it was sort of behind the new variants and wouldn't be that effective. So I'm thinking I will get the one coming in September or October, as it is supposedly geared more toward the later variants, though they never really catch up. With the flu, they try to predict the strains, but the coronavirus is still new, so they supposedly have a hard time trying to figure out the mutations.

I have been masking in crowded places like Walmart or the grocery store if it's super busy, but I have been lax in other places, like a quick run to Joann Fabrics or in and out of smaller places. And we didn't mask at the party because we were mostly outside.

@PTree15 good to hear that your dad is feeling better...he's a trooper!! 😍
Thank you so much. He is definitely a trooper! And I hope your that son-in-law is doing better and that the vacation goes on as planned. I was supposed to hang with a friend on Thursday, but she's been ill with either the flu or RSV or something. She has tested three times for COVID, and it's been negative.

My sister came home from Mexico on saturday and tested positive.on Monday. I was there when she got back and now my nose won't stop running. I don't have any tests that aren't expired. And my digital thermometer needs new batteries. I may be able to get a test kit this afternoon.

Still use the expired test kit until you get a new test kit Lou
