Health Issues The Everything Covid 19 Thread

All this talk of conspiracy has me thinking, though...I wonder if they are suggesting making your own so that the good masks that you buy will be available for the healthcare workers...🤔
Definitely. We're not, and dont' need, to buy the ones the frontline workers use!
I did come across a good scientific article that compared the right filters for the virus- you do want a non woven one. Some vacuum bags are just right!
Mine was really thick and so warm  . And 10 am is quite a crowded time--though Aldi is still the best.

I go outside three to four times a day to walk the dog. And I see lots of other people walking, running, biking and dog walking. Everyone is practicing social distancing. I haven't had to go out to the store because I have lots of food here. We have lots of dry bulk items like beans and rice. and lots of stuff in the freezer and in cans. And soy milk in redi packs. However when we run out of stuff my sister or husband go out and take every precaution.

I just saw on the news that Walmart now screens all their employees for a temperature. Anyone with a temp over 100 is sent home with pay. This is what South Korea implemented nationally back in January. And they got a very good response in flattening the curve. The lack of national leadership in this country is abysmal. And to think that Walmart of all places is taking the lead in responsible management.
Walmart started out selling cleaning products online at crazy inflated prices! And it took them terribly long to get on board. A co worker, who was quite sick, husband is a manager and complained he was going in with his own sickness, and they had zero added cleaning, and were as strict as ever with people working. So many are part time with no insurance.
Of course I'm glad they've changed policies, but it was hardly altruistic! 🙄.
Too much damm stuff in those stores

Hello Silva

Well, you do seem knowledgeable on this.... Hang on, no, you nearly got me there. If I put a vacuum bag on my head I will definitely find more people crossing the road to avoid me.... But maybe that's a good thing....

Better to cut filter paper into rectangles and put between the cloth.

We all know that tp, hand sanitizer and masks are non existent, but I just went to the grocery store today, and couldn't find lentils.

Lentils..can you believe it? Even on Amazon, an otherwise cheap small bag of Goya Lentils are selling for $10+ USD (plus $8+) shipping.

I can't help but think that Amazon is encouraging "low key" price gouging...

Everything is mad this morning as I will have to read the catch up posts later.

We are being asked here to avoid deliveries if we can to leave deliveries for people who cannot go out for whatever reason, so I have been going.

There was talk yesterday about masks, so I wouldn't be surprised if we were required to wear them soon... Luckily I have one, I haven't been wearing one out but I see heaps of people with them.

One good things is I can wear my gloves while pumping my own petrol... I don't like touching the pump as it often has wet petrol dripping from it (some people make a huge mess with it) So it is convenient for this...

went on amazon and ordered a $37 dollar sewing machine, some extra needles and large spools of black thread and white thread, a set of Kingsize polyester sheets and a pack of 6 cotton tshirts - all came to just $127 CAN which is $90 USD and I think that was a great deal

I can make extras for neighbours if they wish them. The sewing machine also works on batteries.... not sure why/when I might need that and yet love it is possible.

Darn I just realized I forgot the elastic for the sides, hmmm, will just have to adapt.

Are you going to make your own clothes after all this is over? :D

I did sew my own clothes when I was a teenager so I am not unfamiliar with a machine. I was able to get my mom to do the harder things like collars and button holes so any clothes I sew in the future won't have collars or button holes (although I do have her entire button collection) and will be made from sheets, pillow cases or tshirts, lol.

I hear the elastic is hard to find.

I used to sew a lot in my younger days! I made lots of little "rompers" for my first son when he was a toddler. I haven't had a machine in a good many years though.
I cut up an old tank top and attempted to make that no sew mask. It would probably work but looks very "homemade" and stupid. :D

perhaps I should clarify...it’s rubbing alcohol for sanitizing. I refuse to go out to a liquor store although I think that would make me equally excited, hahahahaha.

The ABC liquor store by me is following the guidelines very well, with tape on the floor for the distancing, and I saw one of the workers wiping and wiping and wiping the counter. Booze is a necessity after all! :D

Of course those stores are critical! If you're dead drunk on the floor, you will easily comply with the social distancing guidelines...;)

That's just insane. I thought price gouging was illegal!
