Vegan Baileys is going to be A Thing

OMG, thank you for this. I've been wanting to try to make my own forever, but I've been leery of trying any recipes for fear that I'd not like it and thus waste the ingredients (well, that probably wouldn't happen, but still :D ). That said, I'll give the Bailey's vegan version a try as well. Any particular whiskey you'd recommend? I don't drink a lot of whiskey, but when I do, it's Jameson :D.

You can't go wrong with Jamesons! I have used cheaper whiskeys and they still work well with this recipe. Note in my version there is 1 cup total of alcohol. (It uses coffee liqueur rather than coffee.) It does catch up to you...

I'm a little confused by the "coconut cream OR brown sugar" since it's not like the two are interchangeable and each would serve a different purpose.
Of course, I'm picking the sugar and going to try it this weekend since it's a holiday. [emoji38]

There is a slight difference in flavor but the purpose is the same - to add sweetness. So both work well in this case. I have even substituted (vegan) dark chocolate syrup. I prefer coconut cream, but in a pinch any of them will do.

I guess it would not be very creamy without the coconut cream... so rather don't substitute this with brown sugar....

Possibly off-topic, but does anybody here know egg liqueur / Advocaat?

That is something that I remember from my youth before Bailey's was popular in my country, basically because it was quite similar ... really sweet and with some "bite" from the alcohol, so it was a beloved drink both of juvenile delinquents raiding their parents' alcohol cabinets (my role) and of elderly ladies enjoying a sweet and uplifting dessert.

You can make it yourself by mixing eggs, some kind of alcohol and liberal amounts of sugar, so definitely not vegan.

Actually if you like your Bailey's extra thick and creamy - use regular coconut milk, rather than lite, as my recipe calls for. You really need to blend that up well though, otherwise it tends to have little clumps.

I remember Advocaat. We used to make snowballs with Advocaat and lemonade.

Yes, that is why I make cocktails in a shaker.

The sugar would have to be dissolved so you could use either. I'm always experimenting.
Honestly there is nothing complicated about making cocktails. :)

Do you have a cocktail shaker KL ?
I'm going to have to get one of those. :D
Andy, thanks for the info. Much appreciated. :)
I do not have a cocktail shaker but I may have to remedy that!

Seems they initially did not have vegan-friendly as a requirement in their mind, but researched the suitability of their recipe in detail after being faced with much vegan interest over their announcement.

Well, better that they are upfront about it and work on remedying it...

It will have to be really good to top my version.

1 can lite coconut milk
3/4 cup whiskey
1/4 cup coffee liqueur
2 tbs coconut cream or brown sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Shake and stir. Serve on the rocks or as coffee creamer with a kick.

I really have a craving for this drink! :)

I was going to make vegan Baileys for Christmas, but I thought that I would make it this weekend instead.

I still haven't tried that recipe. Must do so soon. I, too, have wanted some, especially after my nephew made what sounded like a very tasty drink with Bailey's in it.

Cocktails with cream (non dairy) are delicious. This is one of my favourites that a friend always used to make for me :
