News 2016 U.S. Presidential election - the highs and lows

Most of his lies are so blatant that they can very readily be checked because video and /or tweets exist of Donald saying (repeatedly) the things he claims he didn't say. That makes it easy to fact check the fact checkers if you don't believe them.

They're fact checking whether or not things were said or done as claimed by them or their opponent. The fact checkers look to see if those things were actually said or done in the past, and post links to them when found. I don't see why they shouldn't be trusted.

Ahhh I see...thanks for clarifying. Makes sense.

LMAO :bag: I don't think cool, calm, collected Clinton even once took a sip of water, while twitchy Trump just about drained his glass. And Trump simply could not stop being antsy & smirking & interrupting & LYING.

I got the impression that he had a cold. It seems like he sniffled a lot.

Or maybe that's just part of a nervous tick. :p

^ I thought the same thing! Maybe that explains his bizarre overconfidence.

Hillary Clinton does the 'Hillary Shimmy' during US election TV debate - creates new viral dance move

They both had their good and bad moments. She was very prepped and seemed like a robot at times. I think that he didn't prepare the debate well but didn't do too bad. He's not a politician and she has over 30 years of experience in the field.
Looking at the polls she has nothing to gloat about and Trump still is a serious problem for her.
The moderator didn't ask certain questions ( e mails, Benghazi) which to my mind made it easier for her.

I'm sure that she will win but the fight is much harder than what everyone was initially thinking.

I definitely found that he had a problem with his mic.

Strange.

I listened to part of the debate online, and part on three different broadcast channels. I didn't hear anything wrong with the mic, other than that it broadcast the words coming out of his mouth.

Would you care to share how you listened to/watched the debate? I'm sure it's still available, and I'd be interested to hear what I apparently missed.

I recorded it on SKY news.

We watched the entire thing live. Absolutely no trouble hearing what he had to say, nor did we notice any abnormalities. No clarity issues what so ever. Though I will say that from switching from channel to channel that was airing the debate (pretty much every network channel) the audio quality did vary to some degree, but the variation in quality seemed to be the same for both candidates. Channel surfed a bit to see if any of the channels had a live fact check ticker to address all of the typical Republican lies.

I don't believe there were any audio issues. Sniffing so loud that the mic can pick it up is not an issue with audio.

NPR did a live transcript and fact check. It worked very well.

I watched 5 - 10 minutes of the debate the day after, and that was more than enough for me. Trump did an amazing thing: He managed to make Hillary Clinton seem like a decent, likable human being.

Well, count me among those who think her to be both likeable and decent, actually more so than many with whom I interact on a not infrequent basis. Added to that is the fact that even among people I like, there are precious few who would be qualified to be President.

What I think if anyone actually GAF.... I think the media has done a fine job of assassinating the woman's character. The funny part is, half of it is tabloid-style and it's corny AF. But hey, people are going to believe what they're going to believe. Maybe the reason she keeps "getting a pass" isn't anything sinister, and actually because the partisan attempts to throw her under the bus just don't stick.

Benghazi? Really? No one wanted to lynch Mrs. Rice when the same scenario played out on her watch, not once but several times. The uproar over George W. Bush and cabinet's private e-mail scandal wasn't much more than a whisper. Maybe the real issue is things going wrong while being Democrat? You know kind of like being black while <fill in the blank>

Well I've watched her on numerous occasions, and she seems to carry an air of arrogance and entitlement. Characteristics I've also seen in Mitt Romney, for example.

It's no secret that Trump is easily baited/trolled. I'd like to see a debate where she doesn't feel the need to knock him off balance, and just stick with a comparison of positions on the issues. After a while, it seemed more like reality TV than a debate, and while that may have given Hillary an advantage, it does a disservice to the American public.

I'd also like to see the moderator ask both candidates hard questions about phony schools, deleted emails, etc... you get the picture. No softball crap. I want to see them both sweat.

With regard to Trump not paying taxes - As much as we might find it distasteful, he was correct about being smart.
There are numerous LEGAL ways wealthy individuals can reduce their tax liabilities substantially. He was simply taking advantage of the tax laws Congress (yes Congress, not the IRS) wrote for him and other wealthy individuals and served on a platinum platter. I'm sure the Clintons have at taken advantage of existing tax laws over the years, so it was very disingenuous for her to point fingers.
