News 2016 U.S. Presidential election - the highs and lows

Well I've watched her on numerous occasions, and she seems to carry an air of arrogance and entitlement. Characteristics I've also seen in Mitt Romney, for example.

It's no secret that Trump is easily baited/trolled. I'd like to see a debate where she doesn't feel the need to knock him off balance, and just stick with a comparison of positions on the issues. After a while, it seemed more like reality TV than a debate, and while that may have given Hillary an advantage, it does a disservice to the American public.

I'd also like to see the moderator ask both candidates hard questions about phony schools, deleted emails, etc... you get the picture. No softball crap. I want to see them both sweat.

With regard to Trump not paying taxes - As much as we might find it distasteful, he was correct about being smart.
There are numerous LEGAL ways wealthy individuals can reduce their tax liabilities substantially. He was simply taking advantage of the tax laws Congress (yes Congress, not the IRS) wrote for him and other wealthy individuals and served on a platinum platter. I'm sure the Clintons have at taken advantage of existing tax laws over the years, so it was very disingenuous for her to point fingers.

I think it will happen at the very last debate because the moderator Chris Wallace isn't bais.

Based on his saying that it's smart, then there's no reason for him not to release his returns. He does, after all. like to boast about how incredibly smart he is.

I think his refusal to release his returns is due to much more than that.

He's always had some psychological need to vastly overstate his wealth, which apparently is about a third of what he claims it to be. (That's based on the calculations of Forbes and other business/financial newspapers, which are not exactly biased in favor of the politically liberal.) I don't know why he does it - it's apparently due to some innate ego need, just like his ridiculous comb over.

The real meat of the thing, though, politically speaking, is the fact that he's tied up financially with some really questionable characters, including indebtedness to the Russian mob, and business deals and holdings in areas that cause national security alarms to go off. There's started to be some good investigative journalism about that recently, for anyone who cares to look.

I don't agree. Eye of the beholder, and all that....

Bernie Sanders is a grumpy old man. I don't hear anyone going on and on endlessly about that, or criticizing him for not smiling, or not smiling in just the right way.

Bernie being a grumpy old man doesn't make me dislike him. I haven't met him, so I don't know whether I would like him - it would probably depend on how much of a sense of humor he has.

Fortunately, my liking or not liking someone has no bearing on how qualified that person is to be President, or how good of a job s/he is likely to do.

Americans approach politics as though it was a matter of electing the president of the local chapter of a fraternity or sorority.

It's a good thing Angela Merkel isn't American; she would never get anywhere here, and yet she is a very competent leader.

This. There are people who plan to vote for Gary Johnson because they say he's the only one talking about legalizing marijuana, but they don't care about the rest of his platform. Even when you bring it up, they shrug their shoulders and say something about "checks and balances". Really? Checks and balances are great on paper, but it doesn't always work in reality.

I've heard the "if you don't vote for Hillary, you'll be electing Trump" repeated so many times, that it seems for many die hard Hillary supporters, the only qualification she needs to be president is to not be Trump.

So yea, talk about U.S. politics..I rarely hear die hard Hillary supporters talk about the issues she favors. Instead, they spend their time resorting to scare tactics.

How one carries/presents themselves reveals a lot about a person.

Speaking of Sanders, don't think people have forgotten about the DNC and Debbie.

Why do you have such a negative bias against Angela Merkel?

As president, Hillary Clinton will continue President Obama's drone policy, dropping bombs on predominately Muslim countries, slaughtering countless men, women and children. People who are not the right kind of human being will continue to be deported; families will be torn apart. The police will continue to kill and brutalize citizens without consequence. Capitalism will still be a thing. Systemic racism will still be a thing.

Hillary Clinton will do things that conservatives could only dream of, but she'll package it in a way that liberals won't protest. She won't refer to Mexicans as rapists and drug dealers but she'll still deport them. She won't ban Muslims from entering the United States, but she'll still bomb them. Marginalized people will continue to struggle.

Watch: Gary Johnson can't name a single foreign leader he admires, admits to having "an Aleppo moment" - Vox :fp:

ETA - I read about GJ and the Aleppo thing and lots of people were defending him online saying that they hadn't heard of Aleppo either. :| He does do marathons though, which apparently impresses some people. It's better to have a potential president who does physical activity and not be "fat" like HC. I didn't realise she was overweight, but I was corrected by people who know about these things.

I am going to be glad when this election race is over as there is a chance that I will give myself permanent injury with my eye-rolling, lol.:D

We have a fumbling, racist buffoon and a liar/crook as the 2 main candidates, but the press must jump on every little Johnson mishap. Must mean they're getting worried about him making a difference in the election. Hell, I couldn't think of a foreign leader that I admire right off hand either because the majority aren't admirable.

But let's worry about his answers to stupid questions instead of what he actually wants to accomplish. Or has accomplished, like cutting taxes in New Mexico and still leaving the state with a budget surplus.

The real Gary Johnson:

They are not stupid questions, they are basic questions that someone in his position should know. But I'm sure that the evil media are twisting the situation to make him look ignorant.:p

****, why should anyone who wants to be President need to know anything at all about the world?

Johnson seems like a nice enough guy, but he's a doofus. Sort of like a cross between Sarah Palin and a labrador retriever puppy.

I bring up articles on Hilary, because I see so many starry eyed people treat her like some sort of savior.

I've heard the "if you don't vote for Hillary, you'll be electing Trump" repeated so many times, that it seems for many die hard Hillary supporters, the only qualification she needs to be president is to not be Trump.

I see that Trump's penchant for failing to see a need to be consistent from one day to another is contagious....

Hillary supporters are starry eyed true believers and only voting for her because they hate Trump, all at the same time. Do we have other diametrically opposed personalities as part 0f our dissociative personality disorder, or are we limited to these two?

This. She's not Trump is the main qualification I hear from her supporters. Not a good enough argument for me.

And as for how votes are counted, a vote for your candidate is a vote for your candidate. Period. Even Mr. Rogers gets it. :p

Did you watch the Q&A session he and Weld did before the debate? Since they weren't allowed at the debate and all. I don't expect you to like the guy since you're a Hillary fan but his track record shows he's not brain dead like Sarah Palin. And no dog would mate with Sarah Palin so we have no idea what a cross between the two would turn out like anyway.

Gary Johnson is a big fan of the free market and privatized everything. If you like austerity, you'll love Gary Johnson.

I was watching a political programme last night and they had a man on there, Alvin Hall (I don't know if he is well known, but he used to do a money-saving show here in the UK) and he was trying to explain why some US people don't like HC. He was saying that people see her as having done a Faustian deal with her husband to get power. There was a woman politician on the programme and she was saying that ambition is seen as a negative thing when a woman shows it, a double standard.

The first thing I thought about was the film with Tom Hanks when he runs everywhere, Forrest Gump.:p

This aligns with my long held theory. Ambition coupled with power and authority translates to huge mega ***** and not just to the male observer, females too. I don't give a fũck what anyone says, there is a huge double standard. Furthermore, people are much more critical of mistakes that a female in the position of power makes than their male counterparts.

Damn, I want to take this and post it on FB.
I'm not, though, lol. I'm trying to keep FB political- neutral because 90% of my FB friends/family are DT supporters and I can't hold my own when I'm being ganged up on, hahahaha.
