UK Brexit aftermath/repercussions

BoJo got 114 votes in the first poll! Jeremy Hunt was in second place, only on 43, I think they said. There are seven people left.
Who the f*ck is Mark Harper? Never even heard of him. He is out along with Andrea Leadsom and Esther McVey.

He was the government's chief whip a few year ago.

It doesn't look like anyone is going to beat BoJo.

I saw Rory Stewart on Question Time the other week and actually thought he seemed quite sensible and normal for a politician!

I saw that he thinks he has more hidden support from MPs who didn't declare publicly. So-called Shy "Rories".

The final nail in the coffin for the Independent Group a.k.a. Change UK a.k.a. The Independent Group for Change?
The Streatham MP told the Times he had been "wrong" to think "millions of politically homeless people... wanted a new option on the ballot paper".

"I also think I vastly underestimated the importance of having an infrastructure and existing relationships with voters," he added.

He was one of 6 MPs to leave Change UK last week after the fiasco of the European Parliament elections.

I wonder if he'll feel as at home in the LibDem Party once Brexit has been resolved and is no longer on the agenda? Will he be happy in a potential new coalition government with the Tories?

That said, I fear that we may end up with Boris as new prime minister after all. He'll obviously face the same problems as May with bringing about Brexit, i.e. no support in parliament, so he'll simply drag out the time and pretend to be working for a solution, but in reality just let the clock run out, which could mean the EU will kick the UK out on Halloween.
This looks like a distinct possibility now:
A senior Tory MP behind cross-party efforts to block a no-deal Brexit [Oliver Letwin] has said parliament has now run out of options for preventing the UK from crashing out of the EU after the defeat of Labour’s motion.
Parliament out of options to stop no-deal Brexit, says Letwin | Brexit | The Guardian (13. June 2019)

Rory Stewart seems almost like a nice person. So he's clearly disqualified from the position as leader of the Conservatives and Conservative PM! I expect him to be voted out in the next round later today.

Here's a video from TLDR News summarising the various Conservative candidates' positions on Brexit and other issues:

I'm actually quite interested to see what happens tonight...

Haha, yeah, a nice person in the Conservative party is like looking for a competent person in the Labour party, they do not exist, lol.

Did you watch the debate?:D

I thought they were all fairly awful. I hated the way they all talked over the woman presenter. Boris can't answer a straight question.

I did like the way Rory Stewart was actually honest and said that this was not a time for tax cuts. All the others seem to believe that you can cut tax at the same time as increasing spending on the NHS, Police, transport, education etc.

No, I didn't see the debate. Have any conclusions been drawn? I'm afraid I'm a little behind in British politics since I moved to Sweden and I rely very much on this thread to keep in touch.

After the latest round of voting amongst Tory MPs, Javid is out:

157 votes for Boris Johnson, Michael Gove got 61 votes, Jeremy Hunt got 59 and Javid got 34. The last round is at 1700GMT today, after which we'll know who will be facing Boris in the vote amongst Tory party members.

From what I'm seeing online it looks like it might be Boris and Michael Gove as the final two?

I saw on a British forum that people were having a discussion about who they would vote for if it was between BoJo and JC. Someone said:

"That's like asking someone if they prefer salt or pepper in their tea

And they don't drink tea, only coffee".

Ooh!! No. It's Boris and Jeremy Hunt! I was shocked, there were gasps at that result. Hmm.
