Horse meat in 'beef burgers'

When those of you who aren't veg*n from birth ate meat, wouldn't it have bothered you to find that what you were eating was, for example, cat or dog, rather than what you expected?

I know that when I still ate meat, I would have been horrified to find that I had just eaten cat/dog/horse. I never could bring myself to eat rabbit or duck in my omni days.

It may not be logical to make such distinctions, but I suspect that I'm not the only former omni who did.

It all depends on cultural notions, I guess.

I never was much for eating horse anyway, even if it's culturally acceptable here in Sweden.

When I was younger and ate meat I had no problems eating ham knowing where it came from yet seeing pigs feet in the store freaked me out.

I was also horrified whenever my mom cooked lamb (which was on very rare thank the FSM). Yet I had no problem eating hot dogs, sausages, or pepperoni knowing they all were made up of random bits of cows and pigs.:fp:

I didn't really think that much about the animals I ate as my family had a farm in Ireland and the animals seemed happy, I thought that was what animals were there for.:fp: I don't think I've ever eaten horse meat but I have eaten duck, deer, pheasant, rabbit and goat as an omni. It seems really bizarre to me now obviously!

I think local butchers are going to do well after this latest meat scandal but I have read a few online discussions and I have noticed that quite a few people are saying that they are going to include more veggie meals into their diet as they want to know what goes into their food.:)
(I hope this happens although one person said she was going to eat more vegetarian meals based around pulses and go to the local fishmongers to eat less meat.:dizzy: )

People should just eat the Quorn lasagne. When I was L/O I thought it was pretty good, plus Quorn is a complete protein.

I'm reading that Romania is being blamed for the scandal now.

Meanwhile, it has been discovered that a lot of dead horses in other countries such as Sweden, UK, Ireland can't be accounted for.

EU leader were meeting to discuss, fearing the scale of the scandal is yet to become clear ...

I have stopped listening to the radio for now I find it very distressing to hear how animal eaters talk about the whole subject. most seem just angry about the fact they are not getting what they thought they were. I did hear a couple of calls on the radio yesterday from people who had changed to being veggie both of them men:jump: . Who says only real men eat meat?

I saw this re horse in other products in a comment section....

I used to have Marmite on toast until quite recently. It was a quick snack when I was busy. I stopped using it because it became different. More translucent and almost an amber pinkish tinge. The taste was also different. Same product, not a cheap version. I wonder now if this product that is supposed to be beef extract contains more than beef now.

The guy does realise marmite is veggie...right o_O

I thought they just sold bad cheap furniture.

The store by me has a cafeteria and some sort of deli-like thing as well.

The prices are low, so people like it.

As for the dig at the furniture, in my experience, for the price, it's not bad. Unlike a lot of furniture for the same price, the Ikea stuff seems to be designed to hold up under normal use (I'm looking at you, cheap Walmart furniture!). And a decent amount of their furniture is real wood, not wood composites, which is nicer than most of the furniture in the same price range.

I have a few things from Ikea, since I live in a tiny space, and they have a lot of stuff designed for a tiny space, and so far, all of it's held up. So I'd go there again.
