Have watched "Sausage Party" with my kids, and found it pretty bad
That is possibly one of the dangers of streaming videos from the internet, that there was no warning whatsoever that it is actually an "Adult cartoon".
We had seen a preview trailer in another cartoon DVD (for a kids cartoon) and my kids (14 and 12) found the preview funny.
Nevertheless, about 2 minutes into the cartoon, my son said "Well, that is surely a strange cartoon. Why are they saying "F*ck", "C*nt" and "B*tch" all the time? That is definitely not from Disney..."
Now, I don't mind that a lot, but the movie was simply bad as far as the storyline and the "jokes" were concerned. No creative ideas, mainly explicit references to sexual acts (however, not critical, as it was about FOOD having sex with each other, but still strange) and drug use. The main protagonists were a (male) wiener sausage and a (female) hotdog bun daydreaming what they would do once they get bought by customers and go to "the great beyond". Wow. So "Adult". No creativity, just trying to be "Adult" IMO.
Another example ... In the beginning, all the food products in the supermarket, before the opening for the day, sing a song together. There is a shelf of presumably German mustard jars, complete with "3rd Reich" logo, Gothic lettering and Hitler moustache, who do a Nazi salute and sing "We'll exterminate the Juice" ... well, I get it, "Juice" does sound like "Jews", and the Nazis wanted to exterminate the Jews. What I am struggling with is in which parallel universe or reality people would actually consider that to be a moderately funny joke....
I have, of course (I mentioned that earlier), an even heavier criticism from the vegan perspective ... the movie tries to make fun of food having a life and being horribly slaughtered by humans. That seems quite offensive to me, as there truly ARE living beings that are horribly mistreated by humans' hunger ... but those are not small slices of pizza who have their tiny legs horribly bitten off, but rather the animals that lose their lives to produce meat, dairy and eggs. The whole idea of the movie seems - to me - to be making light fun of their plight. Not funny.
