Obama and Elie Wiesel to write book together

Maybe the controversial thing is that Obama is supportive of Israel.

I believe it is controversial because Wiesel supports Israeli settlements in East Jerusalem, Jersulem fully under Jewish control and "right to return" for Jewish people only, among other things.

The comments were strange. The Obama administration majorly supports Israel, as prior presidents have done. They still give them more aid than any other country and still veto any UN resolution against Israel (in opposition to almost every single other country). Apparently some Israelis and Americans seem to think this isn't enough and Obama is somehow horribly anti-Israel.

If this is a book about friendship, wouldn't it make more sense for Obama to write it with a childhood friend rather than with a person he has only known a few years?

I've also read that we give more aid to Israel under Obama than any prior administration.

I'm sure it will be a classic.

wow, this sounds awesome...really looking forward to reading it.

friendships can be forged in fewer years than that. we have two men, Jewish and African-American, from two of the most persecuted groups on the planet, who have each survived and achieved more than seemed possible. i think they have more in common than meets the eye and should make for a fascinating read. :)

I think the whole of israel should be assisted by America, and I mean the Palestinean part too, not just the Israeli part. And I think the apartheid there should be ended and people need to realise what is happening there.

The international community, including the US, does send aid to the Palestinians. From wiki:

"2010

The lion's share of the aid comes from the European Union and the United States. According to estimates made by the World Bank The Palestinian Authority received $525 million of international aid in the first half of 2010, $1.4 billion in 2009 and $1.8 billion in 2008.[51] Foreign aid is the "main driver" of economic growth in the Palestinian territories.[51] According to the International Monetary Fund, the unemployment rate has fallen as the economy of Gaza grew by 16% in the first half of 2010, almost twice as fast as the economy of the West Bank.[52]

Ah, so now you're the arbiter of other people's friendships? People you've never met, to boot.

You know, there's a simple solution if you don't think the book is worth writing: don't read it.

But of course, that wouldn't serve to give you an excuse to start yet another thread to voice your thinly (very thinly) veiled anti Semiticism. I'm looking forward to upcoming amorphous speculations about the New World Order, the federal reserve, etc.

I've never made a comment about Jews during my time on any vegetarian board. You know virtually nothing about me. The bigger problem is with Obama rather than Wiesel. He's already written several books, and now he needs another? One autobiography is all you need. Why would he write more? Is it because he wants the money? That could explain why he'd pick someone famous to write a book with which means more money? Greed is one of the many horrible characteristics Obama has.

I dont think he is greedy. I do think he must be brainwashed in some way though, I really dont understand a number of decisions he has made.

Wow. I am just flabbergasted that writing a book with Elie Wiesal is considered a bad thing on this forum.

Just wow.

I don't, I think it's great. I am lucky enough to have heard Elie W speak years ago, so moving.

Well, based on the reactions of some in this thread, I have decided to buy it when it comes out, instead of just checking it out of the library. :p

I guess non-Jews should generally not associate at all with Jews, based on the controversy this book is causing before people even have any idea what the subject of it might be.

Respectfully, I don't see anything anti-semitic about what rainforest1 has said in this thread.
