Before I became vegan I used to share my home with cats and put a cat flap so my cat could come and go. That way the cat could choose wether to come in or out. My neighbour adviced me to keep my cat in at night but my cat had other idea's. In the end I gave up and let him come and go as he pleased. I also had him neutered. I think it's important because their are so many unwanted animals in shelters so we don't want to be creating more. Now I would not have another cat because I couldn't feed it a vegan diet knowing that it could be bad for it. At least with dogs they are omnivore like us so a vegan diet is possible but not for cats who are carnivores.

your decision. my decision was i saved 1 cat from being destroyed by adopting her. there are approved vet vegan petfoods out there for cats that cats have thrived on for years already proven. so my decision was save 1 cat and do not be the cause of other animals' deaths for 1 pet. My view on wildlife is that the domestic cat species being an invasive not natural to most countries pet animal introduced by humans therefore the less of the half the loss of wild birds real wildlife domestic cats are responsible for destroying the better. all pedigree cats are kept indoors by owners in any case as valuable and sensitive to diseases generally.

my cat is now 1 year old blood tested healthy so any issues of nutrients missing would have manifested themselves fast. the food is fine. other vegan cats have lived healthily several decades. it is a no brainer for me. either do not own a cat that involves humans breeding and killing animals to feed them...because that is unethical..totally unnatural..it is only natural for animals to feed themselves in the widl...anything else is unnatural....and forcing many animals to suffer confinement to be bred then suffer due to the frankenstein suffering breeds that chickens turkeys etc are...is immoral and non vegan. it goes totally against vegan principles for humans to breed and kill animals, or feed vegan approved petfood.

it is unnatural for humans to feed other animals than humans...so the nature excuse does not apply. as for Australia and rescues destroying millions of domestic cats that are pests to real native wildlife...that is another issue but linked to the problem..domestic cats...are not natural species and keeping them alive unnaturally by humans feeding them is already unnatural enough...without adding to this unnatural situation by breeding and killing animals for a hairless ape to feed 1 pet based on fallacious ideas of what nutrients it needs...those have been identified...the source is not important..

taurine is synthetic in standard petoods in anycase...so if a theoretical purist wanting only nutrients from flesh...one should not even feed standard petfood to cats since the taurine is not natural but vegan and synthetic. 50 percent of all taurine in the world manufactured is for petfoods btw. the other 50 percent for medical uses. i was on the "raw fed" cats forums...and they were shocked to realise the taurine supplements they had to buy their raw flesh fed cats on ebay etc were all VEGAN as synthetic for reasons given. many of the non vegan fed cats go blind in fact due to lack of taurine if supplements are not given to them when raw fed.

As probably clear...i have no issue with vegans choosing to not have "pets" at all. the very existence and "pet cult" is responsible for the 50 percent of abandons being destroyed in every country in the world into the "pet cult"

the least a vegan should practice is not be the cause of humans breeding and killing animals. there is no ethical justification for this.

marginally one might argue medical remedies for humans justifies this use of animals...but that is the only questionable possible area. otherwise we humans are abusing our powers to do unnatural behaviour...the feeding of unnatural animals the lives of other animals that we have no right to take from them.

Vegan cats Celine and Poppy. The Siamese boy died last year just a few days short of his 20th Birthday. He had been vegan for about 10 years and remained very healthy, he died in his sleep (in owner bed). Celine the black cat was rescued from a vivisection farm estimated age 9 to 18 months old. 15 years later she had a routine check-up and the vet said she has the blood profile of a 7 year old cat! Celine has also enjoyed a vegan diet for 10 years as at December 2018 her age now 20 years old. Fed Benevo Kibble from www.vegepets.com in the UK.

Talk on USA Vegan Nation Radio of December 2018 here..
The talk ! http://wcuw.org/vegannation/V.N.12.27.18.Evolution.VeganCats.NoelleObcarskas-UK.mp3

Petfood protein based on animals content would constitute the 5th largest continent in the world population. It is a multi billion USD etc income to this deadly business.

The word OBLIGATE CARNIVORE comes from the FRENCH language. It means FORCED ! OBLIGE means FORCED ! to eat what was available at the time only that in fact gives the feline cat species HIGH RISK UTI/KIDNEY/CRYSTALS diseases if fed raw flesh....fact ! go see the scientific autopsies reports on 87 percent renal kidney diseases found in Wild Lions on those diets provided links to where to find those article in the links below. We are no longer FORCED to live off other animals lives !

Taurine...is SYNTHETIC so VEGAN as standard in ALL so labelled when quantified petfoods ! Fact ! many people do not realise this.

Cats as a species are WEAK genetically for health in having 30 percent heart murmers and UTI/Kidney/Crystals common problems. This is LOWER than their wild counterpart lion type felines who suffer 74 percent more than double the renal/kidney diseases (on raw flesh diets so obviously not healthy for them) but the same 30 percent species high heart diseases. Male cats especially neutered ones suffer more urinary crystals than females due to their narrower urine anatomy system. Links to the scientific studies with these findings on the general information page link.

To reduce the massive deaths of animals for human and pet animals' consumption we need to not support the animal agriculture industry.
