News Plant Based/Vegan

Yep, one more reason to love Tig Notaro--
Wait, what does that have to do with fungus?
Oh, its just news. I was still on the fungus topic.
(lou, try and keep up)

Speaking of news, now everytime someone mentions fungus I end up thinking about this news story. and then I start cracking up.

A psychedelic fungus is making cicadas sex crazy while simultaneously causing their genitals to fall off

Great news as all of their plant based products sell like hotcakes!

I somehow missed the following article (2019) and the CEO has kept his promise to expand Gregg's vegan menu :

''Since the launch of Greggs’ vegan sausage roll it has become one of the five top sellers of the Quorum Business Park headquartered firm.

The company also enjoyed a strong start to the 2019 financial year as shares jumped more than 13 per cent after the launch of the product – the best performer on the FTSE 100 at the time.

At the time, Mr Whiteside said: “More people are coming. Awareness of the brand has never been higher and the vegan roll has helped with publicity and encouraging people to come and have a look at what we’re doing.”
He announced recently in a radio interview that the company was working on expanding its vegan menu: “We are working away to see if we can come up with a version of all our bestselling lines because people want vegan options.''

Tiny steps.......

"Animal Free Research UK was the result from their visionary gathering.

Five decades on, our charity is celebrating that landmark with a week of awareness culminating in the inaugural World Animal Free Research Day on Thursday, May 27.
We and our growing ranks of supporters will be shining a light on the pioneering research which we fund - that which is forging a future where animals are finally replaced with modern, human relevant techniques."

''It is often assumed that the UK is already a world leader in the fields of animal welfare and scientific research. And our government likes to talk the walk of Britain to becoming in a post Brexit world a global science superpower.

We at Animal Free Research UK would like nothing more than the UK to be so – inspiring the world with ethical sciences that benefit human and animal kind.''

I'm impressed with Israel's innovative companies and their pioneer spirit.

Seven Israeli-founded companies were named among US business magazine Fast Company’s “most innovative companies” in 2021 this month

Imagindairy’s proprietary technology recreates nature-identical, animal-free versions of whey and casein proteins that can be used to produce dairy analogs. With the same flavour, texture, and functionality of their animal-based counterparts, it opens new opportunities to develop a full range of non-dairy products that perfectly mimic dairy versions yet contain no cholesterol, or GMO’s. They also are lactose-free, serving consumers with lactose intolerance or sensitivity.

“Our microflora-based production method was inspired by nature to recreate these proteins,” explains Eyal Afergan, PhD, Co-founder and CEO of Imagindairy.
Imagindairy’s technology can be readily integrated into existing dairy food production facilities. The Israeli start-up has already raised US$1.5M in seed funding and will soon enter its A-round funding series. Israel boasts significant investment in the alt protein sphere, with a new study revealing the total investment in companies developing alt proteins in Israel has increased X8 across the plant-based, cell-cultured, and fermentation fields.
