Under which circumstances would support the publishing of offensive (to some) images or articles of the Prophet (p.b.u.h.)?

I was thinking on the way to the dentist, what do we call satire?

Is someone who posts 'mmmm bacon' on the comments section of an article being satirical, or are they just being a dick?

Satire should not be used against marginalized people.
Are muslims marginalized people, though? Islam is the world's 2nd largest religion. In a lot of countries, muslims are the dominant/largest religious group. In some countries, muslims are oppressing / persecuting / marginalizing other groups.

well you could say that about race issues.

Maybe Charlie could set up offices in those countries and draw Mohammed naked.

People of religion have been murdered, persecuted, tortured, outcast and ostracized throughout history. Their faith has been tested time and time again. If that faith is worth anything at all - it ought to be able to give them strength enough to ignore a freaking cartoon making fun of them.

Religion, politics, homosexuality, homophobia, vegetarianism, anti vegetarianism... It's all fair game.

Freedom of speech is a right. Freedom to not have your feelings hurt is not.

And here's a Muslim goat meme because I'm in the mood.

We have to be very careful about deciding what is acceptable and what isn't. We are all very fortunate to experience free speech, without free speech we become a north Korea.

Satire is just as important to free speech, as written fact and self opinion.

Unfortunately history keeps proving, the only thing that prevents peace is other peoples t religious views.

Yes, Muslims are absolutely marginalized people. There are currently protests in Germany, for example, demanding the eradication of all Muslims. #KillAllMuslims trended on Twitter shortly after the Charlie Hebdo massacre. In many Muslim countries, U.S. drones fly overhead terrorizing, and more than occasionally, killing Muslim people. Palestinians are regularly slaughtered by the IDF. The so-called War on Terror has resulted in an untold number of innocent Muslim deaths. In the United States, especially after 9/11, Muslims are regularly harassed by police. Etc.

Regardless of the laws, you only lose free speech when you choose to fear the repercussions of using it. We don't let our own government dictate what we can and can't say, though it may try sometimes, and I'm sure not gonna let some idiot jihadist tell me what not to say. I'm gonna go on a Prophet Muhammad bashing binge for like a year just to make a point :p

If Clinton gets satirical cartoons for getting a blow job and Bush gets satirical cartoons for letting loose some idiotic quotes, then they'd better come to the realization that their pedophile prophet does not get a free pass. If they want to revere the ******* so be it, but I reserve the right to challenge their view through debate, satire, and outright disrespect.

Germany have a history of mass rallying against religious groups, and if memory recalls that didn't turn out to well for them.

We do have to be careful about isolating religions, the fact is : Most extremists are Muslim, but very few Muslims are extremists.

The solution is not to isolate a whole religious group, but instead engage with them to get their help.

Spang, I make my statement as a generalisation considering the number of attacks there had been against the West in the past ten years.

Let me be clear the people responsible are in the minority!

And the point I am making is that the religion needs to be engaged rather than ostracised. It's the only way we can gain EACH OTHERS support.
