Specieism, racism, and sexism

Oh yes! Let's play oppression Olympics!

All three are bad, all three are interconnected in a system set up to privalege only a very few. They cannot be ranked, because often they work together. And trying to rank them only further divides marginalized peoples.

Different people have different priorities, and trying to squash a discussion before it starts, where people may learn something is, IMO, the wrong way to go.

There are many vegetarians who could be considered specieist. Specieism by itself doesn't cause problems unless there's actions associated with it.

As it is, speciesism has been a factor involved with far more suffering than the other two and I'm more of an animal person than I am a human person. I'd consider speciesism to be the worst of the three. I'm not sure about the answer to the second question honestly.

Yeahhhhh...no. Stating that x is more important than y erases the persons who have been affected primarily by y. And vice versa. All it does is create in fighting, instead of actually examining and dismantling the systems themselves. It is the exact opposite of helpful.

And it's not squashing conversation (unless you are a blowhard that wants to insist that sexism or racism or other isms don't exist despite all evidence to the contrary), it opens up conversation for people to look at the interplay of these systems through different lenses.

On the topic, since it's mostly subjective, I think specieism bothers me the least, because we as humans cannot fully understand their experiences due to communication difficulties. And since I'm probably a specieist myself, it makes sense to pick it.

well what is the correct way to debate in this thread?

A duel at midnight.

Only one person in this thread is attempting to suppress the discussion. I'll give you a hint: it's you.
It's his job to enforce the rules and try to keep discussions on topic. Sometimes that means stopping off-topic discussions. Nothing controversial with that.

Except pointing out that the three are all part of the same system of oppression and cannot, in fact be seperated to rank, is not off topic.

The vast majority of humans wouldn't be considered racist or sexist, but 98-99% of the human population would be considered specieist. I don't see how they're part of the same system.

A reminder of the debate forum rules:

On-topic: Keep on topic - avoid making off-topic posts. This includes “empty” responses, or general chit-chat, such as "lol, Ha, "I agree" or "this thread is silly, why can't we stop making threads about this?". Do not derail threads. Only post responses when you have something to contribute to the debate. If a topic is of no interest to you, then don't post in the thread. If a topic brings up another issue, start a new thread.

This is exactly why this needs to not be a rule. :|

Surely, you're joking. Both those things are everywhere.

*this same sentiment was communicated in a much more succinct format, but that post was deemed "off topic".
