I think whether or not you take melatonin regularly or not is mostly why you take it in the first place. I have chronic insomnia. and it helps. I suppose I could only take it when I have insomnia. but I fall asleep fast - I just have problems staying asleep. (maintenance insomnia) So waking up at three and then taking it is not an option. better to take it every night before bed.Hmmmm.... I have years old melatonin!It did help me sleep, but I was under the impression you shouldn't take it regularly.
I have no sleep problems with this new job, at least not yet!

Also, it only seems to have good side effects. I haven't heard of any bad side effects.
I take just 1mg a nite. that's a really small amount. Plus melatonin is something our bodies make. so it really seems unlikely that it will have a bad long term effect.
