Health Issues The Everything Covid 19 Thread

Hmmmm.... I have years old melatonin! :rofl:It did help me sleep, but I was under the impression you shouldn't take it regularly.
I have no sleep problems with this new job, at least not yet!
It's still priced low on amazon-https://smile.amazon.com/s?k=melatonin&crid=TOUXZFP6SENG&sprefix=melatonin%2Caps%2C225&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-do-p_1_9

I just ordered nooch and dha and forgot about needing b12 :fp:
I think whether or not you take melatonin regularly or not is mostly why you take it in the first place. I have chronic insomnia. and it helps. I suppose I could only take it when I have insomnia. but I fall asleep fast - I just have problems staying asleep. (maintenance insomnia) So waking up at three and then taking it is not an option. better to take it every night before bed.

Also, it only seems to have good side effects. I haven't heard of any bad side effects.
I take just 1mg a nite. that's a really small amount. Plus melatonin is something our bodies make. so it really seems unlikely that it will have a bad long term effect.

I don't recall what I read about it, only that I was convinced I shouldn't take it too often. When I had sleep problems it was mostly staying asleep.
Pistachios are supposed to have melatonin- Dr Greger says just 6 are good to have in the evening. Did n't keep me asleep, but I love pistachios!

More info on sleep, melatonin, and COVID

I just read that the ONS are reporting that in the week ending 18th December that more than 2% of people were infected in London and it is the most affected area.

Another 6 million people in the country are moving into the stricter tier 4 rules on Boxing Day. I wonder how many of those people will be infected by meeting up with family and friends on Christmas day.

Over here lots of people had gatherings on Christmas eve & day and Covid cases are expected to rise in January. They are even talking about having another lockdown!

I read that the first case of the new variant has been found in France. It was a person who had been in London.

I found out yesterday that an older cousin of mine (75) in the US has it and also virus induced pneumonia. This is an evangelical family who are trump champions and covid hoax believers, especially her children. They moved from California to one of the northern states 3 weeks ago and had pics on facebook showing people helping them move and no one was wearing a mask. It breaks my heart that so many evengelicals are perpetuating this disinformatiom about politics and about the virus. If, as they believe, Jesus was to return and ask everyone to wear a mask, I am confident they wouldn't believe Him either.

COVID has now killed 1 in 1,000 Americans.

And people are still in denial.

The anti-maskers and others who choose to put other people’s lives at risk are going to look really bad in the future when we all have time to reflect.

Our local Catholic Churches have been open awhile now but we are encouraged to continue to view mass online. I have not been back in person and don’t plan on going back anytime soon.

I don't blame you. My mom has been attending her church online as well. She misses it a lot, plus my mom (pre-COVID) gets together with group of other church women to knit once a week. That's what she misses most. I've met these ladies, and they are all very nice people. I hope to find a knitting or crochet group in my area at some point.

I hate to even admit this but I wish I could do online mass forever lol. I get so much more out of it. I found a really nice online church in Beauly, Scotland. I’ve even been watching 5:30 a.m. daily mass, not just on Sundays! It’s very relaxing and a nice way to start my day.

I found this timeline of the past year in NYC.

Our positivity rate and number of hospitalizations are now the highest they’ve been since May. But almost everything is still open. We’ve just lost indoor dining and large gatherings, and of course we still have to wear masks.

In a way, it makes sense. We know more about the virus now. We know how to reduce the risk of infection.

However, with the new strain(s) posing an increased risk, I think it’s kind of crazy that we don’t have more restrictions.
