Health Issues The Everything Covid 19 Thread

I still wonder what the "real" infection hot spots are. Work? Public transportation? Secret corona parties? Something else?

We can see a restaurant from our home and yesterday it looked like there was a Christmas party going on there. I was very upset and almost called the health department. There is a maximum of 10 people allowed in a restaurant and there were more cars than that in the parking lot. I just don't understand why people are so willing to risk their health and that of their families. My honey convinced me not to call but it was tempting. grrrr

It’s probably a wider variety of things than the media and politicians are indicating right now.

I read a news article saying that studies are showing low to zero rates of transmission on NYC subways, but we don’t have enough data yet.

I bet it’s small gatherings. Small gatherings where there is contact between people, whether they’re sharing a smokeable or hugging. Sexy times, religious times, sharing a bottle of booze, doing each other’s makeup . . . Those things that people can’t resist doing when they get together.

That’s just a guess.

And I think there’s a random element to it - some people seem to transmit the virus to others more easily than what’s common, or so I’ve read.

Has anyone heard whether the vaccines are effective against the new strains? Do we have any data on that?

That’s the big question on my mind right now, COVID-wise.

I bet the UK strain is already here in the city. How could it not be?

I’m staying home just like in the spring, and cutting back on my trips to the store.

I mostly do Curbside pickup for groceries now. But for various reasons, I thought I would go to the store today. I went today at 8 am which is supposedly reserved for seniors. The store was pretty empty - which was great.
I found everything on my list but the "Holliday roast" I wanted to get for Christmas eve.

I was feeling very secure but then a lady passed me without a mask. she had two bags with her so I assume she was a bag lady. I turned around and went the other way. At the checkout stand the checker was talking about her to the previous customer. He had spotted her and asked her to leave. but I didn't hear what happened next.

Why are you posting this? Is it to praise the employee? If you're criticizing the lady without a mask consider that she might not have a mask because of a mental disorder or disability that prevents her putting on a mask.

Ugh. I’m having reservations about gathering for Christmas despite our 14 day quarantine. Most of me feels like it will be safe especially if we wear masks and stay distanced, but there’s a nagging piece that says don’t do it. And I can’t tell if it’s just my usual doom and gloom anxiety or if there is basis for it.

I was just reading about the outbreaks in SoCal grocery stores. I'm kinda glad I've finished mine. Everyone is in such a big hurry. I was glad the store was quiet, but there's still lots of people on the roads out doing things. It seemed busy to me. Way too many people still not taking things seriously.

Be careful! I think your concerns are very legitimate. With the new variants possibly coming to the US and with self-imposed quarantines being imperfect, the risk is real.

Could you gather outdoors? Have part of the event on Zoom? Or postpone it?

An update about the new strain from the UK. It’s assumed to be in the US. The vaccines are effective against it. It’s just more transmissable.

I think things could get bad here in the city.

Well, I wasn't really wondering about that till you brought it up.

The only person I actually know that got covid - got it a birthday party where they invited too many people. It was her birthday party. She was high risk and had been super careful. Her son threw her a surprise party and invited too many people. She later died.

In the know someone who knows someone department - its been work-related. they got it at work. in fact just today in the news there is a report on an outbreak in Oregon. See the news article below. and the article quotes an official who calls going back to work - "a superspreader action"

In the skimming the headlines department, it seems like the news reports a lot of covid outbreaks that are the result of weddings, proms, funerals, and birthday parties.

This just in.

I'm glad I have a year's supply of melatonin already.
Hmmmm.... I have years old melatonin! :rofl:It did help me sleep, but I was under the impression you shouldn't take it regularly.
I have no sleep problems with this new job, at least not yet!
It's still priced low on amazon-https://smile.amazon.com/s?k=melatonin&crid=TOUXZFP6SENG&sprefix=melatonin%2Caps%2C225&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-do-p_1_9

I just ordered nooch and dha and forgot about needing b12 :fp:

My coworker has no idea where she'd gotten it, she's always worn a mask, limits her activities, is good about keeping things wiped down. Her husband had to quarantine with her, but wasn't positive. I worked alongside her and stayed healthy

I wish we'd hear more about the statistics of those who do catch it, I mean few discuss diet

Sure we could do any of the above. It’s going to be pretty mild but rain is expected. So outdoors likely won’t work. And I don’t think we will be postponing. My daughter’s house is big so distancing with masks is my plan.

Your daughter and family sound like they're very much on target for doing all the right precautions. I would go, with your best mask and a few more just in case, sanitizers all around and enjoy the day!

OMG! My grandchildren's step grandma on their mother's side just posted a video of a group of them dancing and partying at a bar with a band playing and NO ONE was wearing a mask!!! I hope the kids don't go over to her house over the holidays! Those people are stupid Trumper biker anti-maskers. :(
