Hi everyone,
If you're a UK resident, please consider signing
this petition to encourage the government to develop and implement a concrete and well-overdue plan to begin phasing out the use of animals in research.
It has already passed the 10,000 mark - enough to yield a response from the government. If it can get past 100,000 signatures it may be debated in parliament.
Sadly animal experimentation is a seldom discussed issue in British government and never features in any of the major partys' election manifestos. For any changes to come about, animal research needs to be made a politically foreground issue.
On which note, an early-day motion (EMD-175) has been tabled to approve an independent scientific debate into the status and efficacy of animal research.

EMD-175 has been signed by only a small number of MPs so far. Getting a larger backing from more MPs would make it more likely that the topic becomes more widely discussed in government than it has been so far.
MPs need to know that people care so please consider emailing yours and asking them to sign EDM-175. I'll happily post a template letter here that you can just copy and/or edit and send if it helps.
Even if the debate doesn't go ahead in the end, getting MPs behind it will draw more attention to the issue and that can only be a good thing.
