TV & Film The TV Room

I just finished the Queen's Gambit on Netflix.
Wow. It was good.
Music, sets, wardrobes, script, cinematography, acting, All get high marks.

Holy mackerel. This TV show has gotten So Much Buzz. Not a day goes by without me seeing an article about it. Today while listening to a Football Podcast, the hosts went on a 5-minute detour on the Queen's Gambit.

I am a bit obsessed with Masked Singer. It is a fun game, I do not watch many of these types of shows, but this is fun. I love the outfits.

Does anyone remember Spitting Image? The ugly puppets doing political satire? It's back! Here in the UK it can be watched on BritBox, but there is also a more condensed (and free!) version on Youtube. Here's the episode i just watched - so funny if you follow UK politics at all!

It seems like we have two TV threads. this one and Which TV Show Are You Watching.
Is this the one we should post to? and if so maybe a moderator could close down the other one.
It can be confusing.

Well, I'm not sure how I feel about this.
Mostly because I have a long list of Nature shows in my list on Netflix. And a lot of recorded and unwatched nature shows on YouTube TV. *
And it's not like real animals, plants, and locations on Earth aren't amazing enough.

But Netflix has a new tv show about made-up life on other planets. I saw the preview and it looks really interesting. But I think I would feel bad if I watched it before I finished all the others.

*Part of that I can blame on my sister. Last winter while I was sick, my sister got a 4K TV. And we watched parts of Planet Earth, Seven Worlds, One Planet, and Life on Earth. Watching nature shows on her TV spoiled me.

Last night we watched The Old Guard on Netflix (it was good - Charlize Theron) and then started watching The Surgeon's Cut, also on Netflix. Watched the first two episodes and found it fascinating and heartwarming.

I liked the Old Guard. At first, I thought it was a stupid premise but I think the writers did a good job with what they were given. And it was fun. I have been gravitating towards action flicks during the Pandemic.
If you haven't seen it yet check out the Netflix limited series of the Warrior Nun. And Teenage Bounty Hunters.
Stupid premises that are saved by good writing and performances.

I have watched a lot of Netflix this year.
I finished She-Ra some time ago and it was well done, I would have just wanted my favourite characters, Entrapta and Scorpia to get more screen time.
The show had a lot of characters that were LGBTQ+ and there was even one aromantic asexual, Mermista. That was impressive. We could use more representation since some people still think that we can be cured. But sadly, those kind of people probably don't watch shows like this... But maybe their kids will.

I binge watched The Last Kids On Earth. I don't think I would watch it ever again, but if new episodes arise I might be interested.

I re-watched Our Planet and then moved on to Night on Earth. I think these are one of the best series ever made. Our Planet is for free on YouTube if you can't afford Netflix!

Then I watched The Healing Powers of Dude, which would have been more enjoyable if instead of getting a dog, the main character would have attended an therapeutic garden and taken care of wild birds and bees to overcome his anxiety.

I started series 1 of The Witcher yesterday.
That one was recommended to me when it came out and I watched the first episode and then put it down. Let me know if you like it and if it gets better after the first episode. Maybe it deserves a second look.

I watched the whole season of Cursed and I can't recommend it. (its sort of like Witcher)

If you haven't watched the Queen's Gambit yet, do yourself a favor and watch it. It is great.

oh, and since you live in the UK you should be able to get Striker on BBC. It's in the 4th season now. It's based on detective novels by Rowlings. I have the fifth book on hold at the library.

I've only watched two episodes so far but it is watchable. I did read it was meant to be as violent as Game of Thrones but it's not at all. I found GoT too gory and stopped watching it.

Queen's Gambit keeps coming up on my recommendations actually.
