TV & Film The TV Room

Funny thing about Bones, I tuned into the pilot episode when it first aired, and couldn’t finish it, I thought it was boring. Flash forward a few seasons, and I was watching another Fox series, Fringe. The network moved the series to a different time slot right after Bones, and I decided to tune in early so I wouldn’t miss the beginning of Fringe. So I watched the last ten minutes of whatever Bones episode was airing that first week. Then in the following weeks I’d tune in five minutes earlier, and then five minutes earlier, and then I said what the hell why not? and watched the next episode from the beginning. And that’s how I got hooked on Bones and watched it until it ended production.

I soon got tired of Fringe and skipped the last season or two.

And while Bones was still airing, I found some of Kathy Reichs’ books in the drugstore, read a couple of pages of each, and wasn’t impressed with her writing. 🤣

I loved Fringe but i think the last season went off the rails.

I like Animations, too. of those you listed the only one I've seen was Hilda - and I loved it. as far as TV series go, I also really liked Rilakkuma & Kaoru.

There are lots of good animated movies I like but those have to go in a different thread.
:)
Also, Trigun is amazing animated series. I wonder if you actually have seen that already?

I loved Fringe as well. I was really disappointed when it ended.

One YouTuber that I follow, Samantha Aimee, made a video about this Netflix series called She-Ra And The Princess of Power. I have been avoiding the series, because it seemed agonizingly boring, but after Samantha shared her notions, I got mildly interested.

I used to love that when I was at school. She was the female version of He-man.:)

I have also been watching the 1990 Moomin. It's one of my favourite series.

I have a white Moomin teddy bear.

I'm binge-watching Netflix's The Warrior Nun.

This is another teenage comic book hero adapted to the small screen. Being that I'm presently watching Star Girl, i can't help but make comparisons. Ava is a few years older than Courtney but also came upon her powers suddenly.

The Warrior Nun is also (so far) on the edge between using science or the supernatural as the explanations.

The show is beautifully shot. The lighting guy deserves an award. The acting is pretty good. The effects are good too. The fight scenes are nicely choreographed but IMHO they are too long. The dialog is OK. Ava is like many superheroes chatty, witty, and satirical. However, the voice-over narration is not only unnecessary but contains all the worst lines.

Thematically the show reminds me of a bit of a Dan Brown novel.

The second one is on the air now.
I only watched a few minutes of the first episode.

the first one is a bit of a cult favorite. I binge-watched on DVDs years after it was off the air. (back then i didn't have any cable.) I really liked it. 100% on Rotten tomatoes

It was on the air in 1999. Twenty years before the re-make. And it was on for three seasons. And this is back when seasons were made of 20+ episodes.

Also in retrospect, the casting was fantastic. Maybe on par with Freaks and Geeks.
In the lead role, Shiri Appleby, before SwimFan and dozens of other roles.
Katherine Heigl before Gray's Anatomy and dozens of other lead roles.
Emile de Ravin before Lost.
FYI

Just watched the last episode of Warrior Nun. It was great but it was a cliffhanger. And it will be at least a year before they have a Season 2. Netflix hasn't even greenlit season 2 yet.

Oh! Look!

Roswell (1999) is on YouTube. Pretty low res - but it's free.
I just watched a little bit of the pilot. Shiri is so cute!

So I have been watching Stargirl. It's just a one episode a week deal. How quaint.

This is the third week in a row that it has surprised me on how good it is.

I do like my superhero stuff but as a fan I tend to be very critical of many of the shows. At first blush, this show seemed a little too campy and silly but I stuck with it and very quickly found that the show's faults become just background.

Being a teenage superhero show has some advantages. Any show like this would be over in 10 minutes if people didn't do stupid things. And who can you count on better to do stupid things than teenagers?

Also (surprisingly), one of the show's big themes is family. and the show spends just as much time on developing that theme as battling bad guys.

Umbrella Academy - Season 2. Netflix.

Just watching one episode a night to make it last. I loved season one and season 2 seems to be even better.
Besides some great writing, the cinematography is world-class. and I love the soundtrack.

I may report back as I get more info but so far...
Netflix is filming a new show called the Crew.
The Crew is about Nascar racing.
The race car in The Crew is sponsored by a fictional plant-based company called Fake Steak.

"Beginning at Saturday’s FireKeepers Casino 400, Reed Sorenson’s car will switch to the No. 74 Fake Steak Chevrolet. Throughout the weekend, NASCAR will capture footage of Spire’s renumbered car in competition at Michigan to be featured in the series."

Gosh. I am not even slightly interested in Nascar but I may have to tune in.

🎵🎶 Let's go Fake Steak, Let's go! ♫♬

I used to follow NASCAR all the time (with a previous boyfriend) so thanks for letting me know about Fake Steak. lol

Thank you also for the info on Umbrella Academy, it looks interesting so it is good to know you like it.

We have started binge watching Murdoch Mysteries on Netflix. I had to twist an arm to get him to agree but now he is enjoying it, as am I, and it is filmed in Toronto and surrounding areas so that is fun. Also there are 12 or 13 seasons and more coming so it should last a good long while.

I think The Listener is a hidden gem of a tv show. Since it stayed on the air for five seasons - i must not be the only one who liked it. Oh, and it was shot in Toronto.

it was a supernatural procedural crime-solving show. I liked the characters.

I'm not sure where you can watch The Listener. you may have to borrow the DVDs from the local library.

Orphan Black was shot in Toronto but they rarely mentioned Toronto. They even went to some lengths to disguise where the show was shot. But IMHO it is the best TV that ever came out of Canada. Tatiana Rules!
