Wow, I thought you were joking! That's crazy.
Now aren't you mad that you didn't look? I'm going to keep searching the Internet...someone has to know something!
I would have expected a cliffhanger, kind of sort of, haha. I mean it's not unheard of at a season's end. I guess we were all expecting it to end after the death, though. But let's face it, when are fans not annoyed about how things go down? It seems like someone has something to say after every episode, lol.
This one is on Kirkman 100% I think. The last time Robert Kirkman was so vocal about something he claimed to regret that he did in the comics, Rick ended up keeping his hand. He came out not long ago saying that he regretted killing Abraham when he did because it would have been interesting to see what Abraham could have brought to "All Out War". I kind of figured someone else would be getting Abraham's death but who was anyone's guess. I also agree that someone needed to take Abraham's death pretty much unchanged for the introduction (re-introduction?) of Dwight. The people in the writer's room are fine with Robert wanting this because they feel that remixing deaths keeps things fresh.
I actually liked how they did this. It showed Denise coming out of her shell and understanding how the world outside of Alexandria was. It showed her gaining some confidence... It's like a kid that wants to take their bicycle out of the front yard and their parents finally decide to loosened the parental leash a bit just for the poor kid to be plowed over on the road by a speeding truck... For a moment the kid feels empowered like he/she gained their wings just to have that freedom (and their life) quickly plucked away from them by a reckless driver. Maybe that's a strange analogy, but it's how I saw it. And hey, maybe no one will get blown to **** by a grenade
And hey, I think the show/comic is pretty LGBTQ friendly. No one is immune to having a tragic and senseless death. We still have Aaron and Eric, and Jesus hasn't came out in the show yet Speaking of which I think that is the most awesome thing ever. Having such a bad *** like Jesus be gay without any stereotype defining him. Jesus is the man regardless of who he may love!
I mean, in a lot of cases I guess it could have worked. It's just the dual fact that Denise already has a good death in the comic, and that the death really should have gone to Abraham.
I don't want Tara to get blown to **** by a grenade, but I'd much rather have Denise die saving her girlfriend than in a random-*** situation she wasn't even supposed to be present for. That being said, I agree with you about Dwight - that tension needs to be there. Stealing Daryl's **** isn't enough to really have the effect it needs to have. There need to be some serious trust issues, or else you don't feel like anyone's an underdog and victory feels too easy given the tools everyone has at their disposal. Dwight needs to be kind of a f*cker because the connection needs to be uneasy.
Can I just say, in the comic, when they revealed that Jesus was gay I flipped my ****. That's amazing. A gay character named Jesus who looks like the Western concept of Jesus and has a Jesus-type ideology. That's good stuff.
I do think we need a bit more LGBT representation in the show, but it's on a good track - at least, it was until this death. I am still very disgruntled about Denise, and if they do anything to Tara...!
Sure, no one is immune to having a tragic and senseless death, and that is a big part of both the comic and show. But when you have only a handful of gay characters and you take a death meant for a straight character and push it off onto one of the few gay characters, I can't help but raise an eyebrow. Plus this is coming at a time where media that keeps killing off one-half of their f/f pairings (The 100, Orphan Black, five bazillion other shows going back into the history of film and television) is finally being scrutinized for pulling homophobic/sexist ********. It's a decision that seems to me both irrational from a writing/drama perspective, and kind of regressive.
Still, as far as adaptations go... I look at this, and I look at something like Game of Thrones, and that makes me grateful for this. Certainly not the dumbest decision this show has ever made, and certainly not the dumbest decision a television show has ever made.
I'm done with Volume 12 of the comics, I think that's the latest one released - super bummed about Ezekiel. Rosita f*cked me up but Ezekiel made me gasp out loud on a full plane. Especially because now Michonne (who is now a badass pirate, which, good decision) won't be able to solve whatever drama she had with him! I'm sad about that. Also **** is hitting the fan in a major way with these weird earth cult zombie folks. Not sure if they can handle the wrath of Carl, though...
Also, would you mind maybe directing me toward wherever you read the comic online, please? I'm going to end up buying every single volume when they come out, so I wouldn't feel bad in the slightest about catching up online. And I really want to be caught up.
If you're all caught up you can buy the issues the day they come out at www.comixology.com for $2.99
I honestly can't say that I disagree with any of that... Most of the time though I do prefer it when they do stick to the source material. Abraham should have died.
Kirkman did the unimaginable, not as powerful as issue #100 but still a kick in the stomach. So... You're actually talking about the end of Volume 24, which is issue #144. So you need issues #145 - #152 (#153 comes out April 6th)... New issues come out the first Wednesday of each month.
Ah, nice, thanks.
Yeah I meant "Book 12" not "Volume 12," that's an annoying system and semantic difference but my bad. Cool to know I'm so close to catching up.
ETA:
Negan is the best villain. He's so blunt, and yet he's so difficult to read. I can only hope the show does him justice, because I like him more and more as I go further and further. Not as a person, but as a seriously messed up villain who has a LOT of charisma going for him. Also, a lot of the time he is just straight up funny. Upsettingly funny.
Also, wow, this is getting intense. It's a testament to how far Maggie's character has developed in the comic that I can't even imagine Maggie and Rick getting into a fistfight in the show.
Yeah, people who haven't read the comic book have no idea what bringing Negan in really means. Negan changed the face of the Walking Dead FOREVER. The most satisfying villain I've every encountered in a story. He's a brutal psychopath but he isn't crazy, and he has a sense of ethics, and you're right the guy can be hilarious. The way Negan dealt with Spencer's offer to kill Rick and take over Alexandra was just WOW, that is a panel that will forever stick out in my mind. It was so ****ing brutal but at the same time it showed that Negan definitely has a code of ethics and perhaps has respect for Rick.
Fast forwarding to current-day in the Walking Dead, as far as I can gather the time jump was actually about 4 years. So Negan has been in that jail cell for all that time and once again I'm getting a sense that Negan doesn't hate Rick at all and actually has a whole lot of respect for Rick. That being said I'm going to make a prediction; I predict that when Negan gets out of that cell it will once again mark a turning point in the Walking Dead. I predict an alliance with Negan to fight Alpha and the Whisperers! Negan will start down a path of redemption as much as Negan can possibly be redeemed anyway. I doubt he could ever truly be forgiven, certainly not by Maggie. Chances are if this happens it will put Rick and Maggie at odds...
I'm reading FB comments now...too funny!
