TV & Film The Walking Dead

Where? I'll believe it but I didn't notice (or at least don't remember) foreshadowing.

No? Her no longer really being able to emotionally handle the things she has done and has to continue to do to survive... Kind of in the neighborhood of comic Carol don't you think? I doubt she just "snaps out of it", I think they're building up towards her demise. My only question at this point is who's death will she eventually cop? Did #167 set the stage for Carol's death? Because I'm with you, I can't see that being in the cards for Michonne... We know that Holly's death is off the table, they did that scenario on Fear, and Sasha sort of took the Holly death in the spirit of the March to War arc. Or maybe the story told in #167 will not happen at all. Maybe they give Carol a death similar to her fate in the comic. I can just see it now; broken and no longer able/willing to continue she lights a cigarette with tears in both eyes, arms crossed smoking that last cigarette while revisiting moments that have haunted her in her head. She takes that last drag off her cigarette and extinguishes it under her foot. Then in comic Carol fashion walks into a herd of walkers to be completely devoured! :)

Ehh... I feel like the struggle Carol's facing right now isn't just an extension of the abuse she faced, which was her struggle in the comic. TV Carol was able to overcome what her comic book counterpart succumbed to.

Comic Carol succumbed to rejection of the opposite sex, which never applied to TV Carol... But perhaps that was just on the surface and abuse did play a role.

And the same sex!

Tbh I don't remember a lot of the earliest stuff from the comics - it's been a while and I didn't really start getting into it until somewhere around the middle of the prison arc, so the majority of Carol's development I've probably forgotten. I remember her trying to make out with Lori and then killing herself, and that's pretty much it.

No, she didn't try to make out with Lori... She propositioned Rick and Lori to join their marriage. I don't know, I'm kind of like a sponge for retaining details :)

Actually, you're right... Carol did kiss Lori when she went to Lori to propose joining their marriage after Rick had turned her down. I just had to go to read a couple issues after feeling a little doubt about what I had previously said.

Yeah, I remembered the kiss and the attempt to join their marriage. Kind of hard to forget, it came so quickly out of left field.

Negan's backstory in full... Narrator has an annoying grating voice, but still effective and to the point lol

Yeah, it was a little bland but I know good stuff is coming.

I feel very disconnected and having a hard time with the show this season. But then, it was happening slowly, for me, since the deaths of Glenn and Abraham. I found #174 interesting. It seems like the die-hardest fans, now, are those who’ve been following the comics. I keep watching because I'm invested but I find myself not caring about what happens and who dies at this point. I hope that changes for me. It’s not really enjoyable to watch “just because”. Several people I’ve talked to feel the same way and none of us read the comics. :(

One thing is for sure with this TV show they're damned if they do and damned if they don't with two or three factions of fans... You have people who have been reading the comic since day one that get ticked off if they change things too much (most of them will also say that their favorite character in the comic book is NEGAN lol), the people who are totally oblivious to the comic book and have no desire to get acquainted with it that aren't happy with the story, and the third faction is those demanding non-stop horror movie zombie killing action and unlike the first two factions they don't understand that TWD is not really about zombies. The people in charge of bringing TWD to life on television sure don't have it easy, they're for sure going to be unpopular with one or more of the fan factions regardless of what they do. Let me say this though, the Glenn death HAD to happen, EXACTLY the way it did... Had they not killed Glenn graphically exactly the way they did in the comic there would have been torches and pitchforks outside of AMC headquarters. That was the single most memorable moment in the comic book, and the moment that readers had been waiting to see happen on TV since the day issue #100 came out! :D I remember reading that issue for the first time and being emotionally terrorized, likely how it would have felt to be a part of that line up.

I'm not without complaint either.. They really haven't been doing a very good job of following the comics this season, there's been key moments that are the same, or the same but remixed and we're still generally moving in the same direction.. I don't understand why they're doing this ******** with Eugene's character, they're ruining him the way they ruined TV Andrea... I also don't understand what possessed them to even have the junkyard gang at all. They don't exist in the comic book, and there is no reason for the freaks to exist in the TV show either! There are other things that bug me too... Daryl needs to just ******* DIE already, and Tara should have been gone yesterfuckingday!

As far as not really feeling the All Out War story goes, as much as comic book readers adore Negan, many of them will tell you that All Out War is a story arc that they were glad to get over and done with. We love Negan, we loved Something To Fear, and March to War (I was sorry and confused to hear that TV fans didn't enjoy those arcs, but oh well)... But we definitely don't love All Out War... Many readers had the same issue you describe, feeling disconnected with the story at this point. I can tell you that All Out War does have a good ending though, and I can also tell you that there is new stuff to look forward to next season assuming All Out War gets wrapped up by the end of this season. If they're smart by episode 15 or 16 the war will be over, Negan will be defeated (I'm not going to spoil the HOW).. Actually lets switch to spoiler tags for this next bit...

Essentially what's going to happen after AOW is over and done with, they're going to do a time skip of several years... I think it was something like 4 years in the comic. The first half of season 8 should be about showing all the wonderful progress they've made after several years without human conflict. It'll be optimistic awe inspiring, it'll show how organized and efficient they've become. A patrolled route between Alexandria, the Kingdom, Hilltop, AND the Sanctuary, farms, a mill producing flour, a jail, etc. If they do the future stories right they will redeem themselves for what AOW is lacking this season.

I agree on the damned if they do, damned if they don’t, and the description of the three sets of fans and I fall mostly into the second category.

Which is okay, there is no wrong answer... As long as you're the first or second... The third... Well screw those guys lol

They truly can't deviant from the story that has already been told too much is the bottom line... I really do feel sorry for the guys in the writer's room.

Yes, I agree. What I find amusing are the people who argue on FB. There are people who will defend the show with every fiber of their being and accuse others of not being a “real” fan because they get mad when things don’t go their way and threaten to stop watching. Obviously, I’m not a real fan, lol, but I’m keeping up with it because I’m an eternal optimist. At some point something has to happen to make me happy again. Right now, they took too much away from me! They need to give something back! Lol.
Plus, I don’t enjoy watching wars and killing. I’m more into the mechanics of how things work and relationships between characters.

Honestly, from a fan standpoint, this show was s longshot for me from the get go. I had zero interest in watching. It was really just a whim. But it hooked me. It was a shock, not only to me, but my entire family. Same thing with GOT. I’m just a little bored right now. The Sunday before last’s episode was the best one for me so far. I didn’t like any of the others, and where are we, up to 5 or 6? So it's been a struggle. Man, I’d be getting slammed if I was posting this on FB haha.

I’m kind of rambling anyway. It’s 3:51 and I’ve been up for awhile and can’t fall back to sleep. :)
