TV & Film The Walking Dead

Wow. I loved this week's episode!! :smitten:

I've been waiting and waiting for them to finally do something with Eugene. I loved the dynamic between him and Negan. Loved watching him interact with the wives. And that pickle jar! Nice touch!

One thing though,

I expected him to make the bullets for Alexandria like he did in the comics, but I guess that's not happening now. But he DID give his plans/instructions to Rick "just in case something happens," which means that Rick's group can still make them. But that's assuming that Negan doesn't make Eugene tell him where the building is. Maybe Negan will get overconfident and assume that nobody else from Alexandria is smart enough to make bullets.

It was pretty good, I agree... Interesting that they've gone down a bit of a different path than the source, but we know it will come together and play out pretty much the same as the source once the AOW arc really gets started.

Out of curiosity, are you up to current on the comic? Interesting how the current development of Negan is going..

Pretty much. The last issue I read, he cut off someone's head. It didn't really surprise me, though I have no clue what his plan is. I got the feeling that he actually sort of likes Rick now.
I'm at the point where only the comic interests me. There's something about the show - I'm not sure what exactly - that's caused me to slowly lose interest.

Ahh okay, you're about 10 issues behind then... A lot has happened since that happened.

The internet is blowing up with arguments between diehard fans and those losing interest, lol.

I totally get why you're losing interest, Katrina. I feel the same way but something is making me hold on. It may simply be the hope that something will turn around and grab me again.

I think part of the disinterest is I'm more interested in the people than I am in the big upcoming battle. And I'm not going to lie, Glenn's absence matters to me. They broke up a super couple with his death, haha. And there's no replacement. Rick and Machone are cool and all but I don't see a real chemistry. We don't even have enough of the bonded friendships, and not enough of Daryl, Maggie, Carol, etc. so this whole build up to something big is boring for many of us. I don't even want Negan killed. I want him to be redeemed yet it's impossible at the same time. It's crazy. Which is probably why I'll still watch it, lol.

I know that many people think TWD has become "boring" and I am sorry they are losing interest. This happens with long running shows in general I think. Since reading the comic puts a different perspective on it, I think we comic readers will hang on through the "boring" episodes. There is a LOT more material to be explored!

Characters in this series are pretty interesting because they don't stay the same from the time they're introduced... They constantly evolve.. It's a really cool aspect of the comic book, and they've captured that with the show too. The same applies to Negan. The communities will go to war with the Saviors and they will eventually win. There will likely be a fake out, and Negan will not be killed. Instead Negan will call the jail cell Morgan built home, for a few years anyway. In the source material after the war there is a two or three year time jump and we get to see all the progress the communities have made over the last few years (much credit to Eugene)... The next conflict that arises Negan will work towards redeeming himself... Negan will save Rick's life multiple times, Rick will save Negan's life a couple times over during the next conflict and it's aftermath, though Rick remains reluctant to actually "be friends", and will probably never fully trust Negan. I sincerely hope the TV show goes on long enough for us to see all of this play out on screen.

That sounds pretty cool. I think I could get into that. I need more romance, though, lol. I need a Glenn and Maggie!

Yep what Chryssie said.. Carol is playing the role that Michonne played in the comic book with Ezekiel... But then again for some reason the TV show likes to shy away from those situations.

There was actually a LOT of hooking up going on in the comics, especially earlier on in the prison. In fact it was pretty day time soapy at times lol... You had the Andrea and Dale romance until Dale dies shortly after leaving the prison. Carol and Tyreese until Michonne steals Tyresse from Carol. Carol wanting to "join" Rick and Lori's marriage. Rejection drives Carol to suicide... Michonne and Tyreese until Tyreese dies, then Morgan becomes new boyfriend until he too dies during one of the earlier fights with the Saviors in Alexandria. Andrea has a brief fling with Spencer, dumps Spencer and gets with Rick. Michonne meets Ezekiel and is like "Oooohhhh look! Another black man in the apocalypse! Gimme gimme!"... Maybe they're afraid of those situations making it feel more like a soap opera than it already does :D

I liked this episode.

So, is Badlands going to be shoved down our throats on a regular basis, now, before Talking Dead?

I liked this episode. It was a decent season finale. Lots of feels.

As usual, I read spoilers and the recap of the finale before actually watching it, and based on the comments, I thought I was going to be disappointed. So many fb comments were about how anti-climactic it was but I thought it was just right. Totally worked for me.

TWD has probably the most fickle fans of any fictional universe I've ever seen... I really don't get it... They are NEVER happy! If it's so horrible why are they still watching/reading?

I kind of get it...I can be fickle, too, lol. It's hard when things don't go the way you want or expect them to. I think they keep watching in the hopes that it will get better. I had a hard time with a few of the episodes in the middle of the season and was pretty disinterested, but I'm really pleased with how this season ended.

The big thing is, there's nearly 14 years worth of story that's already been written, illustrated and published... Not even counting the four or five novels that have been borrowed from along the way too. No amount of wishing it would go in a different direction can or will change the outcome. The writer's only job is to change things enough to keep it fresh even if you already know the story being told. I don't know, maybe that's more challenging for writers than having free reign of making up a story as they go along?

Agreed. I liked Glen and Abraham. Now they're gone. I like Carol, but she's been moping about all season. Eugene is pretty funny, and I'm curious to see what he does, but he's not in every episode. As for Rick and Michonne, I also don't see the chemistry. The fact they hooked up at all seemed totally out of the blue to me.

Now that the season is over, I'll probably download the last few episodes and binge-watch them just because why not.

Do you buy the issues as they come out, or is there a place online to read them for free? Right now I'm just borrowing the Volumes from the library as they become available.
