Hellllloooo.....

Rumors going around of two deaths tonight...one male one female...true or false? What do you know if anything?

Haha.

Sorry fired off too quick there...

Spencer pretty accurately gets his comic book death... He goes to Negan and asks him to kill Rick and put him in charge of Alexandria. Negan gets across the point that he has a moral code of sorts, and he hates disloyalty and pegs Spencer a coward, tells Spencer he has no guts. If they emulate the comic book like they have been doing Negan will gut Spencer with a knife on the spot and declare that Spencer had guts after all, they were in him all along, and that he's never been more wrong about anything in his life :) Second death occurs when Rosetta takes a shot at Negan with the bullet she had Eugene make for her. She misses Negan and the bullet hits Lucille possibly taking a chunk out her. In retaliation Negan tells a Savior to kill one of the residents of Alexandia, and Olivia gets shot in the face. Eugene admits to making the bullet, and will be taken prisoner (probably for the rest of the season).

But seriously... This is another one of the turning points in the story... Back half of this season will be about Alexandria, the Hilltop, the Kingdom, etc pulling together to begin to fight back... As I've said, Negan is going to be around for a long long time, but what I've avoided stating is in what capacity and role he will play in the story later. He won't represent the boot stamping on their faces forever.

Wow, they are really dedicated to keeping Negan close to his comic book self as humanly possible.... Another issue brought to life almost word for word. They have gone out of their way to get things as precise as possible.. Exterior and interior of the sanctuary, Negan's harem, and Negan's room... Absolutely out of their way to make things EXACT.. The dialog between Negan and Carl, starting to develop the connection the two share, the iron scene, the exchange between Negan and Olivia... It's ALL nearly word for word how the conversations actually happen in the comic book... Nice little easter egg at the end there too, the unexplained bandage on Negan's arm. I'm a little disappointed in this actually, to have seen what happened in the comic play out here; Rick was supposed to come after Carl after realizing where Carl had gone... There's the first confrontation between Rick and Negan, they beat the crap out of each other and Rick bite's Negan's arm (hence the bandage)... But I do get why they omitted it, they wanted to expedite the story to reflect issue #111 for the mid-season finale... The scene between Olivia, Negan, etc is actually from issue #111. This episode basically jumped from issues #104/#105 to the start of issue #111.. Going on a break with a brawl between Negan and Rick may have been a little anti-climatic compared to what happens in #111 :)

Another reason to jump to #111 may be because it's the beginning of a new story arc.... No actual spoilers of course

The one thing that disappoints me a little bit is the confrontation between Negan and the wives in this episode. Maybe I'm misremembering but they seemed a lot less terrified of him in the comic and more just resigned. They were some of the few people who never really had to worry about Negan giving them the bat, after all.

In any case, that scene was incredibly f*cked up and it definitely made his character even grosser than before, which is tonally very consistent with our introduction to the Saviors' compound in the comic. They're really going out of their way to make Negan evil as ****, and the scene with Carl in Negan's room was intense and, like you said, almost one-to-one with the comic. It's a little bit different now that Carl is older but it's still a really bizarre dynamic and I can't wait to see more of it, especially after, well, you know.

Sadly, Negan is proving to be too much for me. I don't know how much longer I can hold out. I ended up turning it off last week and just reading the spoilers to try and keep up. I will try tonight but it doesn't sound good for me, lol.

It's just different going from print to it being acted out I guess... The scene in the harem aligned with the dialog from the comic pretty solidly actually. They've been purists with the character, but yeah; you just imagine the lines coming off a little lighter than how they've been delivered on the screen at times... Instead of feeling disappointment it's made me re-imagine the panels of the comic a bit. I would feel different if they were actually watering him down, but I can deal with him coming off a bit more evil than I had envisioned from the comic, at least they have him faithfully delivering the lines that made me and so many other readers love Negan so damn much.

I also can't claim to understand how these people who have quit watching feel because they don't have the preconceived ideas like those of us who have been waiting patiently for Negan to show up for the last 4 years... I honestly do not and probably can not understand why TV fans are hating Negan so much, and I doubt any amount of explaining would even help lol

I don't hate him at all...he just scares the sh*t out of me, for real! I can't afford to be that disturbed by something that is supposed to be entertaining, lol.

I actually was not talking about you :) Being sensitive to the subject matter is different, that I actually can understand.

Ok...I'm back in, lol. Thank God! And I know it's not over yet but this is the relief I needed to keep me watching. I thought I was going to have to miss a lot of weeks before I could start watching again.

Honestly, the first half of this season was supposed to be very difficult for people to watch... They pulled that off masterfully, they made viewers feel exactly the way us readers felt when we read issues #100 - #112 back a few years ago... I'm sure there were plenty comic readers that quit reading for the year it took to get from the arc "Something to Fear" to the "March to War" arc. It's hard to fathom that in retrospect, but I'm guessing it's true.

Mid-season premiere... I think there will be a surprise, and I know what it is ;)

That's one way to look at it I guess. I definitely remember the same conversations happening but I remember them being so tonally different.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not disappointed in their presentation of Negan at all. They're really doing a fantastic job, and JDM is nailing it.

TV fans being ****** about Negan is something I also don't understand. The only explanation I can even think of is the one we've discussed before, which is the comic book campiness putting off people whose first impression of the show was a sort of soft sci-fi horror type deal.

Tonally different than I had imagined it, yeah I will say that... I really think it's just that element where we had to take the text in those bubbles and imagine it playing out ourselves... I had imagined the Negan character being kind of Bruce Campbell'essque in ways and imagined if Bruce were casted for the role... I'm glad that didn't happen though, because Ash vs. Evil Dead is rocking so ******* hard! I guess that thought would also tie into the campiness that is apparent huh?

Since we "cut the cord", we had to wait until yesterday to watch it. I thought it was a good episode and I can't wait to see what happens with this new group. The preview that is out is pretty tense.

It's interesting how instead of choosing to deviate down a different story path, they are adding a community that doesn't exist in the comic book. They're going to stick to telling the story that comic book readers know yet have some unpredictable elements by injecting this unknown new community, plus Oceanside (the community of women) isn't introduced until after All Out War should also bring more to the tv story arc.

Not to spoil season 10 or 11, or whatever season it plays out in, but seriously loving the very recent path they're taking Negan down in the last couple issues of the comic... Are you up to the current issue @FortyTwo and if so what are your thoughts? Hit up the spoiler tag.

I liked Rick's grin at the end of the episode. A gun is in his face, and all he can think about is how perfect these people will be for his army. lol.

I'm curious to see how Darryl's existence could change things. He's not in the comics at all, so I found the Darryl/Dwight interactions very interesting. He probably overheard enough things and knows enough about the compound's layout to be of help when they plan their attack, but they'll still need Dwight's help. Or Sherry's. I'm not sure which one of them helped him to escape. Thoughts?

That whole boat incident, with the "you may have won but you still lost" note probably has something to do with this new group, or at least that's my guess. I wonder if someone from that group was the person who stood on the shore watching them that day.

Oh without a doubt that's what comes into Rick's mind... But, I don't think it's going to play out in our favor for All Out War. My theory is this is a group of opportunists, that will ultimately choose to take sides with who appears more likely to win, and the odds aren't in the favor of ASZ/HT/Kingdom. I'll call it right now, they will choose to join Rick's crusade, but once they realize how big the Saviors are they will flip sides stabbing Rick in the back. Basically I think All Out War will be the same sort of cluster **** that it is in the panels in print.

The strange thing about Daryl and Dwight having a thing for me is knowing that Dwight is a character that was created during season 2 of the show inspired by Daryl... I don't think Kirkman thought the show would last long enough to actually have them cross paths lol.

For me, the biggest let down of the episode was the fact that Dwight didn't pop out from behind the curtains during the meeting with Ezekiel... Booooooooo! I also wouldn't take any bets on Sherry being any sort of long term ally (Last few comic issues, yeah?)

All in all I'm expecting the comic book scenarios to continue to play out with some twists thanks to characters that weren't there in the comic. Definitely anxious to see how things are going to go with Dwight...

How prophetic for the situation the US is in today, lol. Struck me right away.
