TV & Film The Walking Dead

Scathingly negative like 99.9% of the articles about The Walking Dead written in the last three or four years lol... As I said before, it is their job to make us LOVE filthy filthy boy Negan the way comic fans love him... ***Potential spoiler*** Negan is around for the LONG haul unlike the Governor... The detractor though is the restraints of network/cable television, part of why the guy is so damn lovable is his frequent and creative use of what is the most vulgar word in the English language by American standards... If we got that every episode I would have a huge smile from beginning til end :D This show truly should have been on HBO or one of the other premium channels to have truly done it the justice it deserves. I am thankful though that they haven't watered it down too much, after all we did get another one of the iconic lines delivered in the last episode.

Haha...I know...this is what I told the person who sent me the article. I just felt like busting chops, lol.

I could have lived without that iconic line, though, lol.

It looks like we're looking at an interesting Telltale cross over coming up... It looks like the new group we meet next episode may be from Telltale Game's Michonne mini series that is suppose to take place during the time jump after All Out War, other than the obvious fact that it's early (no big deal), our connection with them (Oceanside) is through Tara rather than Michonne.

It's damn smart really... We have a universe consisting of comic books, novels, and video games that they can borrow from.

Okay, now I'm going to go on and on about **** no one here cares about... Because.... I'm hyper, that's why...

So we have Tara Chamblers, who is actually a character from the novel The Rise of the Governor, as well as her whole scenario of meeting the Gov. Tara and her family we only get a few chapters of and what happens after Phillip and his group part ways is left to the imagination. In the Novel Tara's sister is April Chamblers, but what they did is in order to work in Lilly Caul they placed Lilly as Tara's sister... Had they stuck to the comic book Lilly Caul would have been at Woodbury in season 3 (casting blunder of original show runner/writers?). Lilly was in a few issues of the comic book (she kills the Governor, in a much more dramatic fashion), she was also in the novels The Road to Woodbury, and The Fall of the Governor series, and the Telltale Walking Dead game. Another amusing thing about Tara and Lilly's story is how they inject the little girl named Megan. The Rise of the Governor is obviously a prequel, and the little girl in the book is Phillip's daughter Penny. Naming the little girl Megan in this reworking of the scenario is an Easter Egg for everyone who has read the books. Megan is Lilly Caul's best friend in the novels... Another really cool Easter Egg is how the Governor (Phillip) takes on the name Brian, whom is Phillip's older brother in the novel. Bob Stooky was also a character that is primarily from the novels (He may have been in ONE issue of the comic book) as well that was for some reason thrown into Rick's group at the prison (odd choice, but I guess they needed to have a stand in for the premature death of Dale)... But hell, the references and throw backs to the novels was actually a redeeming quality of season 4/5 for me.

Damn, I need to buy the Telltale Michonne mini series, now I really want to know more about the source material that Oceanside community is based on...

Okay- I watched a little of the episodes on YouTube, and the best thing I've seen about The Walking Dead is.... a series of comic memes, showing Rick torturing his son Carl with bad Dad jokes, e.g.: (quoted from memory):

Rick: "I made a belt out of some old watches..."
Carl: "Please stop."
Rick (getting down closer to Carl): "It was a waist of time."
Rick (getting a bit closer): "A WAIST OF TIME, CARL!"

Rick: "Do you know what Hershel's favorite restaurant is?"
(Carl is silent)
Rick: "I Hop!!!"
Carl: "I hate you..."

Evidently these memes use still images from when Rick was mourning the death of his wife / Carl's mother, but I might be wrong.

I might tune in to watch when/if they air an episode where Negan gets what's coming to him. But supposedly that won't happen anytime soon.

And the "science" behind the series doesn't work... walkers crave human flesh, but they can survive and move indefinitely without feeding on anything at all, if necessary?? Maybe I've got that wrong.

Chalk it up as you're never going to watch this show, Tom... The show will get canceled before Negan is out of the picture I think lol.. As big a fan favorite among comic book readers, as Daryl Dixon is for the TV audience...

I think the idea is you're supposed to take the zombies as a given and focus on the impact they have on the world around them.

I've always assumed it was some kind of virus that built its own physiology within the human anatomy, using the host human for mobility. Maybe that's giving it a bit more thought than was intended.

Science... Can always fall back on George A. Romero's explanation... It's because Hell is full... Yay science!

A few of my favorite characters have been killed off! It is a dark place this zombie apocalypse. I have been brought to tears a few times!

Wow, they are really dedicated to keeping Negan close to his comic book self as humanly possible.... Another issue brought to life almost word for word. They have gone out of their way to get things as precise as possible.. Exterior and interior of the sanctuary, Negan's harem, and Negan's room... Absolutely out of their way to make things EXACT.. The dialog between Negan and Carl, starting to develop the connection the two share, the iron scene, the exchange between Negan and Olivia... It's ALL nearly word for word how the conversations actually happen in the comic book... Nice little easter egg at the end there too, the unexplained bandage on Negan's arm. I'm a little disappointed in this actually, to have seen what happened in the comic play out here; Rick was supposed to come after Carl after realizing where Carl had gone... There's the first confrontation between Rick and Negan, they beat the crap out of each other and Rick bite's Negan's arm (hence the bandage)... But I do get why they omitted it, they wanted to expedite the story to reflect issue #111 for the mid-season finale... The scene between Olivia, Negan, etc is actually from issue #111. This episode basically jumped from issues #104/#105 to the start of issue #111.. Going on a break with a brawl between Negan and Rick may have been a little anti-climatic compared to what happens in #111 :)

Another reason to jump to #111 may be because it's the beginning of a new story arc.... No actual spoilers of course
