TV & Film The Walking Dead

I'm curious to see what happens between Daryl and Dwight (that's his name, right? can't remember it right now). I also want to see how the people back at Alexandria react when they hear the news.

It should be interesting to see how Daryl's existence changes things. Especially the Daryl - Dwight connection in the for-TV story. It's funny because Dwight was written into the comic as a tribute to the success of Daryl on TV (Dwight was introduced in May of 2012 in issue #98)... The similarities are no accident.

I think the original show runner made a lot of bad mistakes, from casting to the writing. As I said before, Andrea was totally ruined right out of the gate, as was Lori. Alan, Donna, Billy and Ben not being casted was a head scratching ordeal too since they were a big part of the early story telling, all the way through the prison and of course the Billy/Ben climax on the road to D.C. Scott Gimple inherited a real mess when he took over, and had to clean up the best he could. You also had the actor who played Dale quitting because of the original show runner getting canned. People yell that the first couple seasons with the original show runner were better, but damn! The people with no previous knowledge of TWD they just don't know. I would have loved to of seen the stuff at Wittmore Estates play out on the TV screen. Such a let down... I'm just glad that the last two or three seasons have been so faithful to the source.

The early show has its own weird atmosphere to it. As someone who read the comics well after I got into the show, I didn't miss the early important characters that much, but it definitely feels weird looking back and seeing how incredibly different the dynamic was from one medium to the other. It wasn't a letdown but I can see how it would have been if you were looking forward to the comic being played out onscreen.

Looking back, though, I can see why Season 2 was so boring. They were trying to drag out what was a fairly small arc in the comic over the course of an entire season. Blegh.

I'm really interested to see where they take the Daryl-Dwight thing. Dwight in the comics has a very different presence than in the show right now. I'm not sure I love the casting but we'll have to see how things go this season. At least now we have Daryl being in the Saviors' clutches to provide a convenient window into Dwight's life without the show breaking its "focus only on the main characters" POV streak.

I have a theory or two, I don't know though, maybe I should keep them to myself for now lol. I suspect it's not going to be as different as it initially seems...

Okay, I lied... I just can't help myself:

Daryl has got to escape the Sanctum somehow... I wonder who will help him escape?

Oh my God, yes!

It makes a lot of sense, really. Dwight already hates Negan but he needs that little something to push him over the edge. Because in the end they're pretty similar people, Daryl might be the one who convinces him to not only rebel against Negan's actions, but become the sleeper spy he's meant to be.

They did a really good job with Ezekiel honestly. I thought it was strange originally that they cast such a small dude for Ezekiel, who in the comics is giant, but he really did nail his personality.

Carol was my favorite part of this episode though, for sure. Her reactions to seeing what was going on around her were hilarious. Despite her ditzy housewife act I think what she said in the very beginning was genuine. "I don't know what's going on in the best way!" Amazing.

I don't recall Ezekiel being particularly huge to be honest... But maybe I'm forgetting

What I'm most surprised with is how they addressed him being a zookeeper and a stage actor so soon... I would have thought they would have let the mystique of his persona stew for a little while. But, at the same time it's pretty cool how both Ezekiel and Carol see through each other. Don't ******** a bullshitter, indeed...

Idk, maybe not huge, he just seemed like a big dude to me.

I agree, I also thought that was odd, but at the same time it wasn't a bad thing? Like, comic book audiences and TV drama audiences are pretty different demographics generally, so if you're going to throw some guy with a tiger into the mix who calls himself a King and runs a place called the Kingdom where people ride around on horses with, well, not exactly chainmail but close enough, an explanation is in order so you avoid losing more casual audiences to the "what the **** show am I watching" factor.

Now that I think of it, Ezekiel did share that information with Michonne pretty quickly... I have a really good memory, but sometimes it's hard to remember things quite as chronologically as I'd like lol

Comic panel to TV screen... Changed this scene a fair bit, but you'd expect that considering the interactions were with Michonne, not Carol.

I'm looking forward to a possible Carol/Ezekiel relationship honestly. Michonne is with Rick now, so those two are probably not going to happen.

Also, I love how different yet the same that scene is. The difference, of course, being that Michonne is more spontaneous and honest than Carol, who is deceptive and paranoid. While that's worked for Carol so far given how fucked up the world is now, maybe finding out that Ezekiel, someone she immediately dismissed as a power-hungry, delusional lunatic, is actually trustworthy and not that different from herself, will get her to change her tune a bit.

They're totally setting that up I think... I think it will happen, and all the Carol and Daryl "shippers" will cry... That's the part I look forward to the most :)

I don't know if I even liked the last episode as it was just so strange! It didn't really hold my attention. At least it wasn't as violent as the first episode.:D

Glad you said that...I didn't want to for fear of being chastised, lol. I don't mind so much now.

Yeah strange, almost as if it came straight out of a comic book sort of strange :D Well it was a bottle episode with the sole purpose of introducing a new main character, and community. As far as being slow goes, yeah not much actually happened beyond the introductions and showing how Ezekiel keeps his people kind of distracted with a fantasy scenario he has created for them.
