That one was great. There is a TV show for that book. They have made tv shows for the first 5 books and are working on another. JK said in an interview that she has outlines for ten books - and she loves these characters.

The next book, is even better and even longer.

arghhhh - longer........ I have taken to skimming a lot of the pages - I feel that she wants us to figure out the whodunit and I just find it too tiring to make my brain work that hard for so long - I do enjoy the characters despite some being over the top

I thought the point or the fun of a whodunit was figuring it out before the detective. or at least before the big reveal. I think in this book I figured it out about a page before Cormorant. But I think that is what she wanted us to do, too.

JK's books seems to get longer with each book. The last Harry Potter book was so long they had to make two movies. fortunately Srtike is just a TV show and they can just add episodes.

The Robin Strike romance gets annoying at some point. but if I remember right it is less annoying in Lethal White. But if you get tired of this book you can just watch the TV show - I thought it was really good. Or just watch it as a reward for getting thru the book.

Read another Mary Kay Andrews called "The Newcomer." It takes place in Treasure Island, FL, a beach town on the gulf near the Tampa/St. Petersburg area. In fact last year my sister and I stayed at an AirBnB in Maderia Beach which is just down the road. It is always fun to read a book taking place in a familiar area. This was another good mystery/thriller about a young woman who runs from NYC with her niece after her sister is killed. The characters are believable, the plot twisty and interesting, and of course there is romance. I really like this author's books!
I put that on hold from the library.

just a few pages away from being done - I read until 2am or so so might have to go back and read a few pages and then finish it today

we no longer have access to the TV show so I think I will just settle for the books

Just finished the Icarus Plot by Timothy Zahn.
It's a Science Fiction /mystery/ thriller.
The mystery part was so convoluted and complex I didn't indulge in my favorite part of trying to figure it out in advance. The thriller part was sort of spy thriller with some crime stuff thrown in.

I knew it was part of a series but after I finished it I discovered that although it's listed as the first book in the series. There is a related book that came out in in 1999. The next 6 books were published in quick succession from 2022 to now.

I liked it and I'll read at least another one of the books.

Today I read "Darkness Absolute" which is another Rockton series book by Kelley Armstrong. I have 2 more in the series here to read. Hopefully the library has the rest of them so I can finish it. In this one our heroes must find a serial killer after they rescue a woman he has held captive for a year. The characters are so interesting and there are always many suspects.

I finished. It starts with us a few days ago. It wasn't as much with the DV as the first one, more romantic.
I started the love of my life yesterday and I'm halfway through. I'm still kind of confused about it to be honest.
Now I have two on the way to the library, The newcomer and the book that inspired the play wicked. I've been waiting months for the wicked book to come off of my hold list. Months. I'm not kidding.

I read Magic Pill yesterday. It is a non-fiction book by Johann Hari about weight loss drugs. It was interesting as he tried it to see what side effects it has and how he reacted to taking it.

I have finished two more books in the Rockton series, "The Fallen Prey" and "Alone in the Woods." Both were really good. There is always a challenging case to solve with multiple suspects. The mystery always goes to the very end. I have really liked all these books. There is just enough romance between Casey and Eric, the quirky characters are fun, and the murders are always interesting. Now I have to get the last two in the series.

A while back I started another Audio Book. Crossing Over Easy by Nova Nelson. My plan was to just listen to a little bit each night as my bedtime story. But I found it also good listening material for housework, walking, and driving too. I enjoyed it. It is classified as a cozy mystery. I'd put it in the reluctant or amateur detective sub-genre. There are a lot of supernatural elements.

the main character is just a regular person, a restauranteur from Austin. When she dies she enters a magical realm and becomes a witch. the town she finds herself in has all kinds of magical creatures. Witches, werewolves, elves, gnomes, fairies, fauns, satyrs. Even the Grim Reaper, a vampire, a genie, and an angel.
Besides the supernatural and the mysteries the book contains some romance.

There are 13 books in the series and I have just finished the last one. All available in audio book format on Hoopla. Or the ebooks are free on Kindle Unlimited. I think they are just 5 hours each.

If you love witty female sleuths, humorous hijinks, and sweet-as-cherry-pie love interests, you will adore Nova Nelson's magical cozy mysteries.

I read the third Housemaid book by Freida McFadden the other day and I liked all three of them.

I am going to start the Tom Selleck book today.

Finally wicked and the other came in to the library.

started reading Robert B. Parker's - Virgil & Hitch series - I can't believe that I haven't read them already as I thought I had read every Robert B. Parker book out there - he wrote at least the first 5 himself and then after his death another author (Robert Knott) carried on writing them as has happened in almost all his series - I so love his humour and style of writing - so I read the first one yesterday Appaloosa and today Resolution - they are Westerns which is maybe why I hadn't noticed them before as they may have been shelved in a different area in the library, years ago - so different from his usual fare and I am loving them

Years ago I read a bunch of Robert Parker's Spencer books which I really enjoyed. Also the TV show! I will have to check these out. I read Westerns quite a lot as a kid as my dad and uncles always had paperbacks lying around.

The Tom Selleck book doesn't seem that interesting so far. I did buy a couple of books for my kindle today after using the library so much and probably saving money for a few months. I bought the Steve Gutenberg memoir and a thriller I had on my wish list by Riley Sager.
