Literature What are you currently reading?

Just finished "Dark Angel" by John Sanford. This is book two in the Letty Davenport series. She is the adopted daughter of Lucas Davenport of the "Prey" novels. This is a complicated thriller with an alphabet soup of government agencies involved as well as Russians. It"s about hackers and gets detailed about the computer stuff at times. I got bored in the middle of the book but then then end picked up on the action and it ended up being pretty good.

I got "Ninth House", by Leigh Bardugo, out of the library and read it over the weekend. It's a fantasy/mystery taking place in Yale in the present time, with magic and murder. It was good, but had a bit of jumping around to different times. However, each chapter's title specifies the date when that chapter happens, which helps a lot!

I loved that book. even more than The Familiar.

I bought the book of all of the books off Amazon. in one big book. I am mostly pausing my library holds, the books are not in the library system. It was brought up so much in so many FB groups I had to find out. I read a few articles about the writer, this is one of her pen names, that made my jaw drop. Edit to add the author's real name- Kristy Cunning.

That sounds good! I didn't read too many reviews because I didn't want to know too much. Will see if my library has the series.

I've never heard of that series of books. I just looked and Amazon sells them all as one series. I might buy them!

I've read the first three books in this series and this one is my least favorite. In fact I don't think I'm going to read any more in this series
I am going to read The Searcher. Same author. Different series. I've heard good things about that book.

This book was just too dark for my tastes. There was a point in the book, when I had figured out the mystery but not what was going to happen next that and I didn't want to finish the book. Of course I did. It's that kind of book. and I am glad I did. but still.

I just finished "The Sky is Yours" by Chandler Klang Smith. This is her debut novel and I am not sure how I feel about it. It is a dystopian story and has dragons which is what made me choose it when it came up on one of my suggested reading lists. However, this book is REALLY weird. There is social commentary on social media which is at times amusing and other times tragic. The city is destroyed by dragons who suddenly appear out of the ocean. A "feral" girl is somehow the answer to everything. There's a prison colony, a rich privileged class, lab experiments (intelligent rats) fires everywhere (the dragons) and relationship stories. I haven't read any of the Goodreads reviews yet. I just didn't get this book. LOL

I read a non-fiction book yesterday called "That Librarian" by Amanda Jones. Subtitle is "The Fight Against Book Banning in America."
Ms Jones is a middle school teacher and school librarian who found herself in a fight with haters over book banning in a small town in Louisiana. Her story is horrifying and delves into the hate that is overtaking the US. She stood up to the online bullying and became a hero for libraries, both public and school. An emotional read and a commentary on the times.
