What did you Cook or Bake Today?

I made three apple pie fillings and a batch of apple crisp with apples from an orchard in Rhode Island. I wanted drops for applesauce, but they were out. I hope to get some, though, unless I can get a really good deal on local apples from the grocery store.
"Drops" for applesauce? 🤔
My son made an apple pie last weekend and purposefully got the frozen shells from Aldi because they're vegan--he prefers the roll out, but those have lard. It was soooo good! Honestly, I'd have preferred just having the filling, he made it thick with cider and cornstarch and just the right amount of spice.
I wonder if it's too late around here to pick?
Aldi gets really good apples here, better than most

Heh, yeah, that's what the orchards around here call apples that fell from the trees. They usually sell them at a discounted price, so I like getting those for making applesauce.

She's still going strong, and now her sister is following suit (the one on the right), albeit, two days behind.

So apparently it's a thing to name your sourdough starters. 🤔

I'm thinking Breadie White and Clint Yeastwood. 😁

Many call their starters Doughlene lol.

Oh, and I read that if your starter isn't doing well to add a little bit of rye flour so that's what I did to the one on the right since it wasn't doing anything. Maybe that did the trick! I'm thinking I will bake my first loaf tomorrow or Saturday.

My sourdough starter is doing really well so I decided I would try an experiment and make a loaf in the bread machine. Took a little over six hours. It came out pretty good but it collapsed a bit on one side. I toasted a slice this morning and realized I might have a problem...I don't think I like sourdough! It definitely had a flavor to it lol 😂. My husband liked it but I couldn't eat it. All this work for nothing lol. I'm going to stick with it and see if the next few loaves taste the same before deciding to give up on it.

Ever have Aldi round sourdough loaf? I liked that one (till they raised the price ), but not much when I made my own.
I'm trying this recipe, with the starter just an overnight. I'm gonna add half wheat flour

Cool...let me know how it comes out!

My Aldi is a little far and I haven't been in over a year now. I should make a trip soon.

IMG_2995.jpegIMG_3001.jpegThis is my first ever loaf (not using the bread machine). Took about 12 hours. Definitely not perfect but 100% edible and really good toasted. I made two loaf pans because I think my dutch oven is too big. Plus it's a pain because it's so heavy.

It's a bit dense but not gummy so it's even good as is with Miyoko's on it. I'm happy. I want to try again but I still have the second loaf in the freezer. I can see where this is going to be a problem because I love my bread and butter. I predict I'll be whining in the health thread within the month lol. 😂

Beautiful crusts! I hear you about the Dutch oven. I got one after years of wanting, and now I think I've used it twice. Too much to preheat, it's white and discolors.....I'm gonna use it today though, after I make a run to the store for more flour 🙄
Oh, and using the 'whey' from soy yogurt I'm straining. Now that gadget I do use!

Shoot...you just reminded me I need flour!! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

I was hoping to lounge around all day.

I stopped getting the Aldi round sourdough as well because of the price. :( I've not tried making my own sourdough bread.
