News 2016 U.S. Presidential election - the highs and lows

I honestly can't help thinking that Trump really never intended to be elected, and he's saying this stuff to guarantee he'll lose. (I think he really means most if not all of what he says, but if he seriously wanted to sit in the Oval Office, it's a little hard to imagine he would have said most of it out loud).

I think he definitely wants to win. The very worst thing in his mind is to be a "loser."

His worldview is just so twisted that he doesn't realize that his views are repugnant to many, and the devoted followers at his rallies just reinforce his belief in himself.

He's gotten away with being his creepy self for all his life - why should he think that he'll actually face consequences now, at age 60?!

He's like these loose tongued people who say the first thing that pops into their heads no matter what it is. I'm not sure how he can think that his "style" of speech could lead to him being taken seriously. But hey, plenty of people obviously do :D

The more I think about it, the more I'm inclined to agree with you. He's either A.) really as stupid as his campaign speeches suggest. B.) He thinks the American people are stupid enough to buy into his WWE style delivery. C.) or he's purposely trying to destroy his own bid for the presidency.

And if Trump doesn’t win, some are even openly talking about violent rebellion and assassination, as fantastical and unhinged as that may seem.

“If she’s in office, I hope we can start a coup. She should be in prison or shot. That’s how I feel about it,” Dan Bowman, a 50-year-old contractor, said of Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee. “We’re going to have a revolution and take them out of office if that’s what it takes. There’s going to be a lot of bloodshed. But that’s what it’s going to take. . . . I would do whatever I can for my country.”

You would think he'd be the last one wanting to bring drug use into the spotlight. :p
I think she should agree to having them both get drug testing live during the final debate.
He would just claim that her drug test was faked, just like he wouldn't accept Obama's long form birth certificate.

There's no point in giving in to crazy. It doesn't get you anywhere.

60? If Trump were lurking our forum, he'd be flattered :D

McMullin? Don't wanna be a smarty pants, but see my post on August 8 :D

I've never heard of him, I'm sure other people have.:p

So we have Lady Macbeth, Bozo the rapey clown, Forrest Gump (sorry Jill Stein I have no impression of you, so I cannot come up with a name for you!) and now if we had a new (unknown, to me) person suddenly come along and steal the presidency that would be a very interesting plot twist.:D

That's not very interesting! We need more drama to this story.:D

What do you say to someone who says this, assuming, of course, you don't agree with it?

"I do not care if Donald Trump called a woman fat. I do not care if he tried to sleep with a woman or if he likes "beautiful" women. I care that he sent a plane to pick up 200 Marines who were stranded after desert storm. I care that he supports our police officers and first responders. I care that he supports guns and standing behind our military. I care that he supports the death penalty and is AGAINST abortion. I care that he supports enforcing immigration laws. I care that he wants to destroy radical Islamic groups. I care that he supports COAL. These are things I care about. Him talking sexually about women does not bother me. Were they mean words? Yes. Were they words spoken in PRIVATE? Yes. Have you ever talked to your friends about the opposite sex in private and said things? I'm positive all of you have. But, News Flash!! Women have been sexualized for centuries!! Jay-Z, Lil' Jon, Lil' Wayne and every single other rapper helped establish that platform, but people are ok with music blasted all over the radio degrading women. Ever heard of Victoria Secret? Or their fashion show? Ever heard of Hooters? People are ok with that too. Until all of these things are different, women will be viewed this way. Your precious Obama couldn't change that and Hillary can't either. I feel sorry for the women Donald has belittled and said terrible things about. But I'm still much more offended by what Hillary Clinton has DONE over what Donald Trump has SAID... PERIOD!!!! So Trump doesn't do well at the debates, maybe he even sounds childish and incapable. But he is speaking the truth! Just because he's not a polished politician like Hilary or Obama doesn't mean he's unqualified to be president. He cares for this country, not growing the size of his pockets. That man has so much money he could never spend it all. He gets NOTHING out of being president! I'm standing for the man accused of saying mean words. I'll never back a woman under three different scandal investigations, possible murder at Benghazi, and the secretive email scandal which has been nothing but lies from the beginning. Trump 2016!!!"

It's not much different from what I've said. I care more about the platform than the personal drama/scandals. Except well, we don't have to make excuses and defend Hillary in the same way they have to with Donald for sounding childish every time he opens his mouth.

I don't really think there is much you can say, well, you could argue with them on the issues, but I assume if he/she cares about those things then they probably would vote for anyone Republican no matter how ridiculous the candidate is.

To be honest if I lived in the US, I would probably vote Democrat just on the single issue of abortion alone so I can understand why people would do that.

Exactly. Hard line Republicans and Democrats will overlook the flaws of their candidates if the candidate is representing the party's agendas and policies. And yes, some people vote a certain way on a couple, or even a single issue. That's just how it is. It's the middle-of-the-roaders that candidates really have to work to impress.

According to Wikipedia, Trump is 70.

Donald Trump - Wikipedia

Yes, I know - he's ten years older than I am. I was originally going to post that he's been the way he is now for about 60 years (giving him the benefit of the doubt during his childhood), and I forgot to change the number when I changed the wording of the post.

I'm baking a chocolate cake Wednesday, to eat while watching the third debate. My sister and I decided that that's what it is going to take in order for us to survive the spectacle psychologically intact.
