News 2016 U.S. Presidential election - the highs and lows

Those white voters are angry and frightened because the world they know is fast disappearing and they no longer feel in control of the situation. Trump is giving them the perfect outlet for their rage and fears. I don't have the time ATM to find the link, but I think one of the latest polls has him being supported by 40% of the Republican base.

I can imagine that their counterparts in the UK support the more rightwing and reactionary politicians/parties for exactly the same reason.

Edited to add: Here's a CNN poll from yesterday: Donald Trump dominates GOP field, hits 41% - CNNPolitics.com

I don't think Palin is crazy. I think she's probably a narcissist, but then, narcissists are probably over-represented among politicians anyway. She's charismatic, narcissistic and stupid, but not as stupid as those who admire her.

I think there's some truth to Spang's assertion that the adjective "crazy", when applied to a female, is often used with the intention of dismissing that female. However, it appears to me that, when applied to a male, it is often used with the intention to get people to fear that male. The exception is when it's applied to an old man - in that case, it's dismissive also. Basically, I think it comes down to how physically powerful the person is to whom the adjective is applied.

I agree that Spang's statement is true in many many cases... But as far as Palin and many of her like minded peers go it's difficult for me to not think of their ideas and visions as being crazy. By no means do I think she's the nuttiest of the nuts, and I would maintain that distinct designation goes to Ted Cruz. I'm tired of talking about Sarah Palin now, I want to talk some smack about Cruz! Seriously, I can't think of anyone I dislike more than that POS greasy haired slime ball :)

People think that sexism doesn't play a role in politics, but it sure does. Every woman from either party who has run for president or VP has been mocked and vilified. Laugh all you want about Palin, for example, but she (and SNL skits about her) set US women in politics back for decades. I don't think Hillary ever had a chance.

Example: Palin's oft-quoted I Can See Russia From My House was not her quote, it was Tina Fey as Palin on SNL.
FALSE: 'I Can See Russia from My House'

SNL does that to everyone though, male or female. Palin having the IQ of a turnip set women back way more than SNL could have.

The democratic caucus: so far Clinton in the lead 52 percent to Sanders 47%. Still early, less than half the precincts reporting.

Republicans: Cruz leading Trump by a few points, Rubio in third. Only 20% precincts reporting so this could change

I read on a Norwegian news site that 6 of the Iowa Democrat caucus meetings were decided by tossing a coin. And surprisingly, Clinton won all 6 of those. Is there any truth to this?
