TV & Film Movie Lounge

I watched a really good movie today that I had never heard of even though J.K.Simmons won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for it back in 2015. Whiplash is a film about a music teacher/conductor (Simmons) and a young drummer. It was very intense.

PTree: I really liked The Martian. I haven't read the book though. I want to see all of the other ones you mentioned too!
I thought they did a good job with casting in The Martian. I love Sean Bean, so it was cool to see him in the movie, even though his role was small. Jeff Daniels was also really good. I would watch The Martian again. The book goes into a lot more detail about the psychological effects of isolation and being stuck on another planet. I would recommend it. :)

We are watching Searching tomorrow.

I'm in a very sentimental mood tonight, and i'm watching "007. The living daylights".:flirt: ...One of my most favourite movies.:sheep:

Oh, I get why you like that film. :)

I remember seeing that film at the cinema in central London with my parents and thinking Timothy Dalton was gorgeous! Lol, I was 11 years old.:D

I watched a very disturbing film today that starred Jeffrey Dean Morgan which is why I got the movie. It is called Desierto, made in 2015. I think his portrayal of a psycho killer may have been why he was picked for Negan in The Walking Dead. This movie is even more relevant today than it was when it was made as it is about Mexican's attempting to cross into the US over the desert. JDM's character hunts them down. It is very violent and horrible. The worst part concerns his dog, Tracker. I can't say I recommend this movie unless you are a big fan of JDM and appreciate his work.

Thanks for the warning! I'm going to pick some movies from Hoopla today, I think. There is one with Andy Garcia called At Middleton. It's about two parents who meet each other at a college visit for their kids. I love Andy Garcia. :D

I also watched Bottle Shock this past week. It was really good and very interesting. I am not a wine drinker so it was quite educational!

Almost forgot In the Heart of the Sea which is the true story of the events that Herman Melville based the famous novel Moby Dick on. Starred Chris Hemsworth so that alone makes it a good movie! :D Was pretty good. I liked it though it was a bomb at the box office back in 2015.

I am just back from the library and have 4 new (to me) movies to watch!

@Chryssie I'm so glad you enjoyed Bottle Shock. :) Hmm, I love Chris Hemsworth, too, so I might have to check out In the Heart of the Sea.

I just watched a good movie. It is called Bleed for This and is based on a true story about a boxer. While I am not a fan of boxing, (I never heard of the guy), I am a fan of inspirational athletes stories. It is about Vinny Pazienza and stars the same young man that was the star of Whiplash which I saw a couple weeks ago. The movie is from 2017 but I never heard of it.

I should watch Bleed for This because Vinny Paz is from my home state of Rhode Island. :D I don't like boxing, either, but his story is pretty interesting.

I saw On the Basis of Sex, the story of Ruth Bader Ginsburg's early education and career, for free at my library today. They have a free movie on one Saturday a month. They even offer some free snacks, but the only thing I could eat was Oreos, so it was a good thing I brought my own snacks. I enjoyed the movie. Bonus: I walked to and from, so I got in 3.3 miles. :D Next month's is the Lego Movie 2. I'll probably pass on that one. ;) I guess they have to have kids movies every now and then.

I have watched 2 movies that were based on true stories. The Rider was very interesting as the actors were the real characters so it was a documentary of sorts. It took place in the Badlands of South Dakota on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. It was about a rodeo rider who was injured and was lost trying to "find his way." I thought it was very slow moving but it was critically acclaimed. It got really emotional towards the end.
Today I watched The Zookeeper's Wife which was about the Warsaw Zoo during the Nazi invasion. It had me in tears throughout the movie. It was good though as it was about the zookeeper and others who saved people from the Nazis.

I seem to be on a "based on true story" kick lately. Today I watched A Street Cat Named Bob which is also based on a true story. I am sure everybody here has heard of this one! It was a wonderful story! It did make me cry which is not at all unusual!

It's a fabulous story and indeed Bob is a national hero. Everyone has heard of him.

Did you know that he played his own role in the film ?

A Street Cat Called Bob - Bestseller
