TV & Film Movie Lounge

I liked Hansel & Gretel but I went into it with no expectations, I also liked Die Hard 5 but I think it was because I'd Just watched Jack Reacher and the bad guy in that played John McClain’s son. I watched the Purge last weekend and thought it was really good. I also watched the Lone Ranger and it was long but not as horrible as the critics said. I just watched a documentary named a Band Called Death which is about an all-black Punk band from Detroit Motor City in the 70's. I highly recommend it. Oblivion was also good and I think I'll check out Evil dead this weekend.

Just watched Lucky, I liked it. It was kind of a fun and silly movie, even if it was about a serial killer.

My Week with Marilyn.I thought it seemed very close to whom Marilyn Monroe appeared to be. I thought Michelle Williams did a really good job.Kenneth Branagh also did a good job playing Sir Laurence Olivier.

I wasn't so sure about a few incidents in the movie but it seemed possible that some things could have happened as Colin Clark said they did.The movie also states it was a true story.

I quite enjoyed the film but it felt so cheap. Like a TV drama that wasn't meant to be released in cinemas. Michelle Williams was great in it, but I'm sure Marilyn didn't speak in that voice all the time. When she wasn't playing up for the cameras she came across very grounded and smooth. Williams played her as she is in her films.

So,Do you think she was capable of having flirtatious affairs with men who were not her husband or do you think she was so grounded that she wouldn't?In the film she did if Colin Clark is to be believed.

I really believed Marilyn Monroe was someone she turned on and off at whim.I also think she was too addicted to pills to be a grounded person, imo.

Oh all I meant is she played her with the Marilyn voice, which wasn't how she talked off camera (as far as I know) :)

Can you imagine how much she'd be vilified if she was famous now? Train wreck Marilyn doing stupid **** again?! What a dumb *****!!

Yeah,I would have hated to see that happen to her.

I was just stating my opinion.I hope I didn't sound ****** off or anything.:)I think it's  you enjoyed the movie!

I just finished watching Life of Pi on TV.

A little too long, IMO.

Must be a hell of a book.

I thought the movie version was pretty good, although it left out the scene where the Muslim, the Christian, and the Hindu met up. That was my favorite scene in the book.

Tonight we watched Wag the Dog (Dustin Hoffman, Robert De Niro) which reminded me just how nutty the media and politics are.

According to a project update email, Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché will be a thing.

After thinking about it since last night, I went back to IMDb and changed my review from 5 stars to 1 star. And the one star was for the CGI and cinematography. It's a movie that's pretty to look at, but it's shallow and pretentious and has nothing meaningful for anyone, religious or nonreligious. It's Deepak Chopra new age nonsense for people who don't want to bother reading Deepak Chopra. The message is warped (believe in a story because you like it, not because it's true to you), the acting is wooden, and the characters have no depth to them. So there's my review.

The timing of Wag the Dog was interesting. :O

Are you talking about Life of Pi? Regardless: '...has nothing meaningful for anyone' is a rather broad generalization. That's more of a rant than a review.

Edit: I'm a little curious as to how your rating went from 5 stars to 1 overnight. By virtue of your vitriol, it is as though you felt tricked, or somehow manipulated.

I disagree about the movie having a warped message. 1) A story is not required to have a message. 2) If a story does have a message - it is often subject to personal interpretation. (David Lynch anyone??)

The book was so incredibly awesome that I was pretty sure the movie would fall short. That being said - I wasn't terribly disappointed in the movie.

PS Admittedly I haven't bothered to read Deepak Chopra because he doesn't interest me; but I certainly wasn't seeking out new age nonsense when I picked up Life of Pi. I heard it was a hell of a story, which is the only pre-requisite I have - and in my opinion - it is.

Are you referring to what's going on in Syria? Because I have been thinking about that too. Wouldn't it be weird if it was all a hoax?

That's the problem with modern technology. For all I know all of you are just a bunch of government workers gathering intelligence on the environmental community o_O
