Monsters University.. it was better than I expected but still a bit boring - I just dont like any 'college' films even if made with cute monsters

^^^ If I remember correctly, it was pretty good.

Recently watched Inside Out for my son's 11th birthday.

A new Pixar animation family movie, quite funny, the whole family and the invited friends enjoyed it!

The story is about a 12-year-old girl, and how - inside her brain - her "emotions" Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust and Fear, depicted by little cartoon characters, struggle with each other to create the completeness of her behaviour.

While this synopsis might sound a bit strange, it is a fresh idea, and very nicely executed.

Best regards,
Andy

Oh, and I watched Pitch Perfect on a flight.

Was ... funny ... and illustrative about the "cut-throad world of collegiate a-capella singing" (which is a thing I did not know existed ... if it should exist in reality, that is ;) )

Best regards,
Andy

Saw "Child 44" yesterday, a very interesting thriller starring Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman and Noomi Rapace, with Joel Kinnaman and Vincent Cassel as bad guys.

Interesting and unusual as it is set in 1953 Russia and has a back story about normal people's (obviously justified) fear of the MGB (predecessor of the KBG) and the main protagonists story, who is initially an officer loyal to Stalinist Russia, but who is then demoted and transferred to a backwater after his refusal to denounce his wife who is accused of spying.

The only thing a bit funny and strange to me was to have an English/American/Swedish/French cast playing Russian people ... of course speaking English, but with strong fake Russian accents :D. I am thinking how it would sound - as analogy - if Jacky Chan, in the synchronized version of his Hong Kong movies, would speak English with a fake Chinese accent (e.g. not being able to roll the "R"), I think most people would consider that a bit strange.

Best regards,
Andy

Just watched Autumn in New York. I find it terribly romantic despite the really bad dialogue and acting by the Wynona girl.

I finally had the opportunity to watch Mission Impossible 5 - Rogue Nation.

Now, while I still count Tom Cruise very high on the list of my least favourite actors, I really liked the movie, mainly because it was quite funny.

I am wondering how many hours Tom Cruise has to spend in makeup before doing a scene, as he still comes across quite youthful. Maybe they made one of those "Mission Impossible" latex masks showing a youthful face and he is wearing it whenever he is acting :D. (OK, OK, I'm done with my Tom-Cruise-bashing...)

That was actually one of my favourite idiosyncrasies of the old Mission Impossible movies. Whenever one of the agents had to impersonate a villain, they would show the agent donning a fake-looking latex mask of the villain ... and in the next shot, the agent wearing the mask would then be played by the actor originally playing the villain, and everybody else would be impressed by how lifelike the mask was ;).

Best regards,
Andy

In the same vein - Ant-Man is also refreshingly light and funny.
Not bad for a Marvel movie.

Best regards,

PS: @Moll Flanders , thanks for sharing reviews from Rotten Tomatoes, I was not so much aware of those.
However, I am a bit confused. I thought that Rotten Tomatoes wanted to point out the worst movies out there ... those that are so bad, that they are actually good again (e.g. Ed Woods movies) ... so does a high score on Rotten Tomatoes mean that it is a good movie, or a bad one ?

The higher the number, the better the movie. You spot the "rotten tomatoes" by their low scores.
