TV & Film Movie Lounge

I watched The Raven today which was a film with John Cusack about Edgar Allen Poe. I think it was aiming to be like the Johnny Depp Sleepy Hollow film but it wasn't as good at all.

I also watched The Possession. The Possession (2012) - Rotten Tomatoes

I have the Xmas 24 channel on at the moment.

We watched Cloverfield at home as Crimson Peak was on too late (still want to see it.)

It was alright but the people were really, really annoying. & stupid.

Watched Terminator Genisys, and it was somehow ok, albeit definitely not great.

There were a few logical faults, unfortunately.

How did they get a time machine to 1984, if they can only transport organic matter back in time? And what would they even need a time machine for, to go from 1984 to 2017?
Granted, less boring that way ;)

And, having some idea how software distribution works, that idea that there is a global countdown for a year, and when it reaches zero, the software is sent out to all computers in the world immedietaly, (and you can stop it by stopping the countdown) well, let me just say that this idea seems rather very funny :D

Have just watched "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." and liked it a lot :)

I must confess, I have never seen the original TV series with Robert Vaughn from the 60's (might look those up now) but the movie was really good.

It had a reasonably logical plot (for this kind of movie) and good acting performances (Armie Hammer as Russian spy more so than Henry Cavill, who was a bit bland), but what really impressed me was how they managed to capture the spirit of a 60's movie.

The sets, the requisites, the costumes, the music, but above all the lighting, the angle of the shots, and the colours seemed to come straight out of one of the early James Bond movies, and the joyful mood of the movie went with it nicely. Nevertheless, I do not think it would have the risk of being boring for today's audiences. Highly endorsed!!!!

Best regards,
Andy

Saw Pixels with my kids yesterday.

It was pretty ok, considering that Adam Sandler and Kevin James were in it, and Chris Columbus was the director, all of which are normally not exactly renowned for providing quality comedies...

But I would have watched it anyway just for Peter Dinklage :D

OMG, that looks awesome (Pixels)! Lol
I don't even play today's video games but I used to back in the day. I bet the hubby and son will love it. I will catch it when it comes to On Demand.

I do like Adam Sandler and Kevin James.

Watched Absolutely Anything with my wife.

Was not convinced. Story similar to "Bruce Almighty" - humble teacher (Simon Pegg) is granted the power to have every wish fulfulled by a "Council of Supreme Alien Beings", half-funny situations ensue.

Even Simon Pegg could not save this movie, his performance seemed as if he was high on valium for much of the movie. I had to fight either sleep or the urge to get up and do something else at some points during the movie.

There was, however, one - IMO - exceedingly funny gag:

The "Council of Supreme Alien Beings" decides to find out whether humanity does have any redeeming features. They do this by randomly selecting a human being and granting him the power to grant absolutely every wish, and see if he would use that power for good or evil.

Of course it is quite clear that the person who will be selected is non other than the hapless, humble, disappointed teacher portrayed by Simon Pegg. However - when the Aliens start the random person selection process, the screen shows a rapid succession of faces that gets slower and slower, and then seems to stop on a portrait of ... Sarah Palin!

Luckily for humanity, most likely, just then the picture skips one more final time to a new picture showing Simon Pegg ;-)

Saw The Stanford Prison Experiment, now out on DVD. Shows the cruel treatment of "prisoners" by other students playing "prison guards" in very graphic detail. I remain skeptical or at least unsatisfied with the conclusion Zimbardo draws from the experiment. It's sort of "the situation made me do it" instead of "the devil made me do it." I think personal responsibility has to play more of a part in all this, and be insisted upon.

The Dr. Seuss cartoon or Jim Carrey people version? I prefer Cartoon but both are good.
