Star Wars - The Last Jedi - My guess as to the story (SPOILERS, BEWARE!!!)

The rebels become aware that the Evil Empire is working on a new, terrible superweapon.
A determined and diverse group of rebels is dispatched to find out more about that weapon.
The rebels get captured by the forces of the Evil Empire, but through their powers and determination, they manage to escape.
They know that they need to warn the rest of the galaxy that the new, terrible superweapon is ready and heating up to fire.
On the way out from escaping the Evil Empire base, they encounter the hidden vulnerability of the new superweapon, hit it with their ship's weapons, and manage to destroy the superweapon only seconds away from launching a devastatingly deadly attack on the rest of the free galaxy. The End.

I saw and liked Season 1 of True Detective. It's now out on DVD. Saw but did not like Season 2. Each season has a different cast and story.

I am not a fan of Oprah Winfrey, and tbh, I think she ruins everything she’s in. So I’m definitely not looking forward to the new version of A Wrinkle in Time coming in 2018. It’s a shame, because Ava DuVernay directed it, and that’s what would have made me interested in the movie.

I guess I understand where you're coming from even though I personally have no issue with Oprah specifically, but I don't think ANY actor could ruin this for me. I NEED a competent film adaptation of this book. Desperately.

Hopefully the writing is good and the direction is as exceptional as it looks in the trailers.

I think there are likely much worse actresses ... I also would not let one person ruin an otherwise good movie for myself ...

I watched The Thing (for about the 30th time) last night. That film is so graphic.:hurl::D

I started to watch Spectre afterwards and thought it was boring compared to Skyfall. It got great reviews so I will probably try again with that.

I did see Dunkirk over Christmas which was good.

Last night tonight at my mother’s place for the holidays ... and I just found out that Okja is an awesome movie to see on Netflix (which we have here) so that’s going to be our plan for tonight...

We watched Spider-Man: Homecoming the other night. It was an interesting reboot with Peter Parker as a 14-year old just getting into the Spiderman routine, and therefore being much more clumsy and making mistakes, which I think gave the story more authenticity. A few parts of the story were still too much to swallow, and I think they made a bit too much out of the romantic interests.

We've also recently watched Carrie (2013) on TV. It was not a good movie.

Watched The Last Jedi, actually really liked it. It's not a flawless movie but a lot of the complaints people are bringing up about it I just don't see.
I saw "The Last Jedi" on Monday night. I enjoyed it, but would rather have spent time with friends or family... however, everybody was doing something else (or maybe I should have tried harder to set something up ahead of time! D'oh!)

Just kidding. I was planning on seeing it and I didn't have to work that day anyway... but it would have been nice to visit with someone instead of calling them on the phone.

I liked it, mostly. Mark Hamill (sp?) was good reprising his Luke Skywalker role- he came across as more intense, as well as older. I think Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and the guy who plays Poe Dameron (forgot his name) are really good in their roles, and it was good to see Carrie Fisher again. The special effects were good, as always, but I just might wait for Episode IX to come out on disc and borrow it from the library- the sound system was LOUD- and yet some of the dialog was STILL unintelligible... whaaaaa?

Uh...

Luke almost murdered his nephew in his sleep, the Resistance is called out for having war profiteer supporters (blurring the line of good and evil SW has always relied on), Yoda('s ghost) returns as a practical effect puppet and sets the Jedi texts on fire, the new trilogy's main villain is abruptly killed off by the new trilogy's other main villain, and the main character attempts to redeem a neo-nazi and fails miserably. The whole thing ends with Luke astral projecting onto a battlefield and fake-dueling his bratty nephew as a distraction so a bunch of Pokemon can help the resistance escape the corner they've been backed into and then promptly trolling him by vanishing and passing away.

Watched a Spanish thriller, “Contratiempo” (English title: “The Invisible Guest”), it was very, very good.

I got "Arrival" out of the library and watched it. I did like it because it was really a nice change of pace to have more than battles going on- but
it was a downer much like "Interstellar" in that the main character sees their child die- although under different circumstances. The music ("The Nature Of Daylight", by Max Richter I think) made it even more of a downer. What blew my mind was after reading a review of the film: I thought those scenes where Louise is doing things with her daughter, who eventually dies, were memories from her life before the Heptapods arrived- but no- they were glimpses of the future she could see. Her daughter was the child she would go on to have with Ian after he suggested they start a family together at the end if the movie- and her expression when she answered "Yes" was because she knew their child would predecease them both. Louise's agreement was the "wrong choice" he would eventually say she made.
