Rampant Racism in America

I'm not even going to read that

The article is actually not bad.

It explains why, if you get invited by a person of colour to visit her family, it is not an incredibly good idea to bring a bucket of fried wings and a watermelon, although the family might actually like those things and buy them themselves.

But, like @MadamSarcastra , I do not very much believe that @Joe 's claim that persons of colour would refrain from eating these foods for fear of being seen as racist themselves, or because they are offended by racism, is a thing that happens very often.

DeAndre Harris was attacked by racists in Charlottesville. Now he faces criminal charges.

The article said:
The attack on Harris is emblematic of this. A black man was brutally assaulted by several protesters, and police didn’t interfere as he was knocked to the ground and tried to get away (although it’s hard to make out police in the videos, given that so many protesters dressed up in riot gear). The official investigation has dragged on for months — with only two of the men who attacked Harris so far charged. And it’s been left to activists online to actually investigate who the remaining perpetrators against Harris were.

Then Harris was charged. As King told the Post, “I am disgusted that the justice system bent over backwards to issue a warrant for one of the primary victims of that day, when I and others had to fight like hell to get that same justice system to prosecute people who were vicious in their attacks against Harris and others. Now, we’re seeing white supremacists celebrate on social media, bragging about Harris’s arrest. They’re hailing this as a victory.”

I think that you missed the entire point of that article, which is that there are compelling reasons to NOT discuss what "black people" eat or don't eat.

Right?

I mean like, it's not wrong to point out there's a stereotype associated with certain foods, but just... out of nowhere like that... confusing at best.

MOD POST
Someone disagreed with the mob here; I know it's hard to accept.
There's an argument for deleting this post like I did with the responses, however I've decided to leave it for now as I want to avoid silencing minority opinion voices (within reason).

As an admin I certainly don't have a problem with anyone disagreeing with the majority opinion. That is what discussion forums are for. The problem is when we (both / all sides) can't discuss in a civil manner.

So let's be clear: if you want to have a proper discussion, then you'd want to avoid referring to your opponents as "the mob". Please be respectful. I would like everyone to please adhere to that request.

I also understand that it's not much fun advocating for the minority opinion in these discussions. It seems at any one time there are half-a-dozen people ready to jump on your posts and tear them apart. And you'll just have to accept you'll never get the last word.

Anyway, if we can't play nice the thread will be closed.

I'm actually incensed at all the attention the 'opioids epidemic' is getting. I just saw a commercial suggesting people carry narcan with them to prevent od deaths. Where was this kindness and concern with crack? meth? PCP? No, those are ghetto drugs.
I've known many who've done heroin, dead and alive recovered. It isn't any different, just different demographics

Norton Internet Security flashed me a warning about this page as "suspicious." I have no idea what that was about.

Yup - that racism and ignorance is the reason dt was elected, no matter how much people tried to dress it up.

This is one of the most depressing analyses I've ever read about how the orange menace ended up in office and how these disgusting racists still would vote for him regardless of his record and character. Be sure to read it all the way to end. Fricken disgusting people.

Johnstown Never Believed Trump Would Help. They Still Love Him Anyway.

He said he was going to bring back the steel mills.

“You’re never going to get those steel mills back,” she said.

“But he said he was going to,” I said.

“Yeah, but how’s he going to bring them back?”

“I don’t know,” I said, “but it’s what he said, last year, and people voted for him because of it.”

“They always say they want to bring the steel mills back,” Frear said, “but they’re going to have to do a lot of work to bring the steel mills back.”

He hasn’t built the wall yet, either. “I don’t care about his wall,” said Frear, 76. “I mean, if he gets his wall—I don’t give a ****, you know? But he has a good idea: Keep ’em out.”

He also hasn’t repealed Obamacare. “That’s Congress,” she said.

And the drug scourge here continues unabated. “And it’s not going to improve for a long time,” she said, “until people learn, which they won’t.”

“But I like him,” Frear reiterated. “Because he does what he says.”
