Should Men Wear Make-up?

If the wearing of make-up is considered an aspect of femininity, I think that just reinforces the artificiality of the whole masculine/feminine cultural construct. I think it is important to make sure that people who engage in behaviors that support this artificial construct are at least made aware of the ramifications of the things they do, and this is accomplished by dialog. If we are to shut down dialog because some people feel attacked for their personal choices, nothing changes.

It's not trying to take away a person's choice, or even to judge a person's choice, but to make people aware of what those choices mean in a political context. What people do every day does matter, and I think it is vital that we all understand how and why it matters.

This all bears discussing definitely. I'm a bit confused where this thread is going too.

Whenever I watch those films I always wonder when Captain Jack has the time to go re-apply his eyeliner. Yeah, yeah, it's a film, suspension of disbelief and all that, but nobody should be able to go through what he goes through and have flawless eyeliner the entire time.

Maybe it's a tattoo!

Or he used an Urban Decay eyeliner pencil, those things really say put.

Lesson learned: Make broad sweeping statements as vague as possible so you can claim they're not about anyone in particular.
And don't say anything as mean as hmmm.
All your hmming has hurt my feelings.
Oh, my hmm wasn't directed at you. Or anyone. Just hmming about the state of the world. If you think it was aimed at you, perhaps you should try deep breathing.

Can't help but wonder what you all are trying to accomplish by this. An honest answer would be a refreshing change.

I'm rather amazed by you though ledboots, since I'm one of the people who stood up for you when you had been hurt by some sarcastic passive aggressive remarks made by our very own kibbleforlola, who doesn't seem to know how to quit when she's ahead.

I'm sorry, I thought it was funny. She just said hmm and suddenly the trouble begins again.

I appreciate your standing up for me in the past. I will try to make sure not to offend you in the future with silliness. I didn't think of it as passive aggressive, but I can see how it looks that way.

I dont know how to quit when Im ahead, do I. Sounds like a casw of the pot calling the kettle black, and all that. Except at least I was apparent ly ahead at one point.

Im just having a bit of fun, partly at ny own expense as im one of those 'overly sensitive' types which is hated so much here. And yes, at your expense too, because you obviously cant control your anger at some perceived slight, while te lling everyone else to check their emotions. The irony is too much for me. :p

As an aside, I like ledboots. I think shes nice. Even though we dont agree on everything, I can seperate those disagreements from our overall relatiinship (something some people here seem to be lacking), and I hope she feels the same about me.

I've never perceived PickleJuice as angry about anything other than what is done to animals. I do understand that some people perceive directness of expression as anger.

None of this is aimed specifically at you ledboots, just because I quoted your post.

I think this is a very good example of how easy it is for people to see motivations that may not be intended. I just want people to think about how what they say may look to outsiders. I do not care for my own sake. As I said elsewhere, I am not easily offended, and it would take a hell of a lot more than this to achieve that.

But if it can look like bullying and flaming to someone who's been around here for a while, what do people suppose it's going to look like to prospective members? If any of you can remove yourselves from the situation and look at stuff like this objectively, would you want to join a forum where this kind of sarcasm and dismissal is taking place? Where groups of people gang up and heap ridicule on others? You call yourselves sensitive people but you think this is just a little harmless fun?

This kind of behavior has the potential to hurt people, and I know damned well that some of you are quite well aware of this and are doing it deliberately. You may not see it this way, but you are being told as nicely as possible to stop.

My problem today is mods who scold other members for doing things they themselves do.

I also have a problem with people told, time and again, that they are too emotional about an issue, and/or that their experiences are not valid or that they are "making things up," just because someone else hasn't had the same experiences.

And honestly, if a board is going to be all sunshine and rainbows all the time, there shouldn't be any debate allowed.
