Not really pertinent. but as long as most of us are self quarantining, we have some time on our hands.

I think the education system should be nationalized. So much redundancy. And so many restrictions.
You know that there is a National Board of Education. State boards, County boards, and school districts.
Each is staffed with administrators who rarely go into the classroom. Why not consolidate and if these guys want jobs (many are former educators) they can go back to the classroom.
There are also many people working for the unions. Why negotiate with hundreds of organizations when we can just have much less people negotiate with just one entity. We can model after the unions that work for Civil Servants
The inequity of schools could also be addressed. Rich areas can just contribute more money to the general fund. Poorer areas could get a similar slice of the pie.
Textbook adoptions and classroom curriculum would be so simplified. Right now there must be thousands of people with a title like Asst Superintendant of the 8th-grade science curriculum. And if Oklahoma complains about how they shouldn't be forced to teach Evolution. Or Kentucky complains that they don't want to teach climate change - they can just sit on it (and spin).
And teachers could more easily move from county to county not to mention state to state.

I kind of see this as something similar to Bernie's and Elizabeth's plan for health care. Less redundacy- more efficient.

And although centralizing the big picture. I think schools themselves could be decentralized. Let's say there are 4 2nd grade classrooms. There could be one well-paid expert teachers for each classroom with a lot of experience. Each teacher would have one or two Asst Teachers. Not as well paid and under the supervision of an expert.

A lot of new teachers leave the field in less than 5 years. Pay is rarely the listed reason. I think stress is an issue. New teachers wouldn't have to meet all the education requirements of present-day teachers. Instead, they would be supervised, coached, and evaluated. A set of requirements could be made so that Asst teachers could become expert teachers after they meet all the education, experience requirements and also get good evaluations. (how many of your children suffered under incompetent teachers?)

I'm not sure but I think every department or grade level could have a Master Teacher. In smaller schools that might just be a level above the Expert teacher - but still, be in the classroom - just have more responsibilities -and pay. in bigger schools, this could be a separate person. The master teacher might have a bigger role in training up the other teachers. They could also fill in when a classroom needs an extra person. We all know about substitute teachers. But what if the substitute teacher already knew all the kids, the curriculum and was the best teacher the kids ever had?

I am also sort of in favor of generally bigger schools. I grew up in a time period when many states were experimenting with mega schools. This experiment was always considered a failure. But now I think a mega school would work really well. Maybe steal a few ideas from the Montessori model. Include more self-paced and computer-enhanced learning. Even let the students choose what they want to learn about. (ala Summerhill)

A large school would be able to enhance many things just by economics of scale. How many present-day schools had to drop AP programs, music and art programs because they couldn't justify the cost. Security could be enhanced too. and if everyone over 12 went to the same school a public bus system would be not only profitable but kind of cool. Put the library and some city government next to the school.

I have been watching a YouTube doc on MedCram and he is very detailed in his explanations of what's happening right down to the cellular level.

Sometimes it is way more than I can grock however he is very interesting and the videos are short.

One of my favourite followers, adorable woman with a nickname "Medusa vegana" (from Spain) has posted it. It's her 14y.o. daughter, holding a paper with a caution. If i understand it correctly, it's written here: "I'm staying at home". ...The situation in Spain is really awful now, and i feel so bad for this woman, because i like her. From what she had been posting previously, i understood, that she had recovered from cancer, so she's a true fighter, though she looks very fragile. She defeated cancer with vegan diet (mostly raw). Sometimes i drop a line or two to her, and she answers in English, though she doesn't like to post things in English (only if necessary). So i hope that she and her "princess"-daughter will be ok.

...My another follower, Sonia Garcia Martin (also Spanish), is sitting at home either, and is playing bagpipes!!! (It's her hobby). I think i'll ask her to record a couple minutes of her performing, lol, because i looooove bagpipes.
I see a lot of people on Instagram (especially among my followers and even new acquaintances), who have become hostages of the situation. But they are trying to stay calm, entertain themselves, and, of course, to obtain food and to feed their loved ones.💖

For me, one of the most unreal aspects of living through a virus pandemic is celebrities urging everyone to wash their hands, and showing people how they do it. This is basic hygiene that my parents taught me when I was a tiny thing, and to see it discussed online like it’s a brand-new hack for staying healthy is just weird. Look:

It's funny, but we were not big hand washers in my family when I was growing up! For one thing, no one had any kind of a medical background, so the training was not ingrained. And secondly, my mother was always so worried about her manicure that she always wore rubber gloves when doing anything in the kitchen that involved running water (and never washed the gloves). When it came to after-toileting washing, again because of her manicure, it was never for the recommended period of time. 😳

Hi Amy! Good to see you this evening! Are you feeling better? What are you up to? What's going on in your facility?
About washing hands: you will be surprised, but, tbh, when i come (quite frequently) into a restroom in, lets say, Okey mall,- i see women touching everything (like opening doors, flushing after themselves, touching the faucets, etc). But many of them don't even wash their hands: they walk out just like that (rubbing their face simultaneously)!😱 The others mostly pretend to wash hands (they soak their hands under the water for a few seconds and run away).🙄 So, it turns out, that the vast majority still needs to be taught to wash hands. Sad, but true...:hmm:

How Can I Tell the Difference Between the Coronavirus, the Flu, a Cold or Seasonal Allergies?

There are some symptoms that are similar between these respiratory illnesses. This chart can help you figure out if you may be feeling symptoms of allergies or a respiratory illness like COVID-19. If you have a fever and a cough, call your doctor.

The ones here that have covid 19 have all described this as the most tired they've ever felt in their lives.
I have MSNBC on now and a nurse that was finally tested positive is being interviewed. She first felt sick Feb 18, and was up and down. Tested for the flu negative. Called CDC and told her symptoms weren't those of covid 19 and didn't need to be tested. She had been around many many people, including at her job in health care.
I would call about any kind of cold or flu symptoms.

My younger son has been compulsive about hand washing for many years, with hot water, running the whole time-what seems like 10-15 minutes! I always yelled at him, but now that I'm being sure about the 20 second rule of contact with rubbing the soap I have to remind myself to shut the water.
I swear I'm going to get a motion sensor faucet soon!

Two people at work due to feeling ill. We found one coworker, who was quite ill with cough and yuck, has a neighbor that's been self quarentined, though not tested

I called to get a dr's appt as I need a new one, the facilities I requested were scheduling new patients out to July! I did get lucky and get an appt April 8 with facility not too far.
