TV & Film The TV Room

we started watching The Morning Show last night - OMG it is so good - we watched 4 episodes and had to make ourselves go to bed... Apple TV seems to be full of good shows and movies - plus everybody and their brother from the past is on the show

Brilliant minds
The Irrational
Abbot Elementary
High Potential (said earlier)
St Denis Medical
Happy's place
What we do in the shadows (last season)
Masked Singer
Wow, I watch too much stuff. lol

I am watching “Man on the Inside”, and also two old series on Disney, “Bones” and “Orville”.
“Orville” is fun, nice Sci-Fi series, and they even added a cool time travel paradox at the end of season 2.

Finished season 4 of "Titans" and there is no season 5 but the possibility of spin-offs is there as our heroes are all embarking on individual journeys so we shall see.
I have 2 episodes of "Cross" left.

I started watching a brand new show from Disney: Skeleton Crew. I had seen the trailer on YouTube and liked it.
I've watched the first three episodes and I'm pretty happy with it.
It's incredibly derivative and for some reason it works. Maybe because it's so well done. The plot it most closely resembles is Goonies but I can think of almost a dozen other movie plots that are similar.
I think you could even call this one Goonies in Space. Or Goonies meet Star Wars.

I've been reading some reviews and I just learned that One of the characters in Mandalorian S3 shows up in Skeleton Crew.
and the sound track includes a version of the song Major Tom, but sung in Hutese, a Star Wars language.

We just watched the first episode of Dexter: Original Sin. It was okay. I can't really remember the first seasons of Dexter as it was so long ago.

we had a The Morning Show marathon... omg .... at one point the "drama" felt overdone and we were rolling out eyes but we hung in there - it is certainly entertaining and Jennifer Anniston is an amazing actor as the part she is playing has such a range of emotions - Reese is also amazing and so many of the others - the show has just reached Feb/March of 2020 and so Covid is a topic as in it is in Italy but it will be interesting to see how they handle it as it hits the USA

Someone I met and talked about TV with recommended Miss Scarlet and the Duke. it is on PBS but I can only watch the new ones being broadcast. oh! just checked and all 4 seasons are on DVD at the library.

Like Lydia Poet, Miss Scarlet is a lady detective in the 1880s. This time in London instead of Italy.
Definitely reminiscent of many of my favorite detective stories like Enola Holmes and the CJ Archer novels.

I like the TV versions because things like the coaches, fashion, and homes are better off NOT left to my imagination.

^ I said I really liked that. I hope Ted Danson has a cameo in the next series of Frasier.

We started watching Black Doves on Netflix last night. I have one more episode left.

My wife and I also watched « Black Doves » and were disappointed.

Great original premise, good acting and a range of good actors, but the story did not convince us, at all.

Starting in the first episode, where the main protagonists visit the apartment of the murder victim, touch every surface without wearing gloves, get in a fight to the death with a couple of assassins where they likely leave lots of DNA and other evidence (including 2 dead bodies) without a care in the world …

Then, the assassin takes about 5 minutes to pinpoint the exact location from which the victim was shot with a sniper rifle 300 meters across the river, and 5 more minutes to find the empty cartridge that the professional sniper supposedly left behind (complete with a fingerprint) , while hundreds of trained police officers and forensic experts, who had searched for such evidence for hours, could not.

Why would a trained sniper and hitman, who was paid 100,000 GBP for a hit, blow up his own apartment that was worth a lot more than that, to (badly) try to kill anybody searching for him and finding his faked evidence (which would most likely have been found by the police forces, who would then know his name and have a perfect piece of evidence against him in his trial) ?

Of course, the missing daughter of the murdered Chinese ambassador, who everybody is looking for, would flee to a random drug den, which would, by chance, be exactly the random drug den that the main protagonist is ordered to hit that day.

The protagonists basically did what they did over the whole series to make sure nothing would happen to their families, in one case two beautiful 9-year-old twins and a husband, in the other case the beloved partner and his 4-year-old daughter, who had all been threatened before by various criminal elements.

So how better to safeguard their ongoing safety when confronted with an international, all-powerful crime syndicate with good ties to law enforcement than to … kill the leader of that crime syndicate, her son, and their chief enforcer. Surely, all the other hundreds or thousands of criminals and murderers in that crime syndicate will NOT, in any way, retaliate for this…

In other words, we did not agree with the critics…
