TV & Film The TV Room

Semi TV related question. Anyone cut the cord to cable/satellite service? The ONLY thing stopping me is I want HBO/HBO Go (my kids use my subscription also).

I've cut back service, but it's still pretty pricey (for what I get) and am giving Hulu+ a try, (already have Netflix and Amazon Prime) as well as just watching shows directly on the websites. Right now I can plug my computer into my TV for web based TV shows that can't go directly through Hulu etc. Later this month (when Windows 8.1 comes out) I should be able to use the push to TV netgear box and do this wirelessly.

Anyway if it works out and I don't know why it won't I'll probably go all the way and just buy the HBO shows I like, like Game of Throne, Boardwalk Empire etc. Could buy a lot of stuff with the savings from satellite cancellation.

Not a big sports fan and our local news sucks so I'm not losing anything there.

Anywho anyone else done this and if so how did it go? None of my kids plan to ever buy cable service.
I cut cable 20 years ago and have never looked back. As much as I love sports, I just couldn't bring myself to keep paying for it. I hated the commercials, and one night, there was literally nothing I was interested in watching. So I asked myself why I was paying for something that mostly frustrated me. I canceled it the next day. I used to pay $38 a month, and I thought that was outrageous, lol. I bought a bike with my savings. :D

I can't imagine forking over $100+ a month for cable. I find shows online and I have Netflix streaming, so I have watched a lot of TV shows after the fact. Much more enjoyable without the constant commercials.

Last night Lifetime premiered this new drama called Witches of East End. Looks nice and trashy. Doesn't look like it'll be one of the great written and acted dramas of all time, but the kind of thing where you put your brain on hold, get out the popcorn, and enjoy some cheese for an hour.

BBC AMERICA ANNOUNCES NEW ADDITIONS TO SEASON TWO OF "ORPHAN BLACK"

Michiel Huisman, Peter Outerbridge and Ari Millen Join the Clone Thriller

TORONTO - October 11, 2013 - BBC AMERICA, in association with Space and Temple Street Productions, announce three cast additions to the new season of Orphan Black. Michiel Huisman (World War Z, Nashville, Treme), Peter Outerbridge (Nikita, Beauty and the Beast) and Ari Millen (Rookie Blue, Nikita) have joined the critically-acclaimed conspiracy clone thriller, Orphan Black. Season two of the (10 x 60) breakout original series is currently in production and is scheduled to premiere in April 2014.

Michiel Huisman joins the cast in a recurring role as Cal Morrison, a rugged, resourceful outdoorsman with surprising emotional depth and a sixth sense about people and situations. Cal will need all his wits and humanity as he crosses paths with the clones. His journey will be fraught with surprise, danger, and revelations he could never see coming.

Also in a recurring role this season is Peter Outerbridge as Henrik "Hank" Johanssen, a mercurial modern-day cowboy. Johanssen leads a flock of followers that have broken away from the old world "Prolethean" brotherhood. Under his messianic vision, the age old divide between science and religion has merged, forming a new and formidable threat.

Rounding out the additions to the cast is Ari Millen as Mark, a cunning predator with a dark edge. Mark is utterly devoted to Johanssen, who took him in and built him into a true believer in the cause. Now, guided by twisted morality and desperate faith, he's a relentless and dogged pursuer of the clones.

Season two of the series hits the ground running with Sarah (Tatiana Maslany, Picture Day, Parks and Recreation) in a desperate race to find her missing daughter Kira (Skyler Wexler, Carrie). Her scorched earth tactics spark a war with pro-clone, Rachel (Maslany), dividing and imperiling all the clones. As Sarah discovers more about her past, mysterious newcomers appear, but can they be trusted?

Orphan Black is produced by Temple Street Productions in association with BBC AMERICA and Bell Media's Space and is distributed internationally by BBC Worldwide. The series is currently shooting on location and in studio in Toronto through February 2014.

I really love Elementary, and I'm glad it's back on, but I was sad to hear the little dig it made at veganism in the most recent episode (especially as it was a ridiculous 'vegans can't get protein' kind of comment). Sigh.

OMG I hate that kind of thing! I could be watching something on TV and everything is fine, I’m enjoying what I’m watching, and boom! all of a sudden there’s a dig at vegans or veganism. And most infuriating is when it’s just a gratuitous dig that has nothing to do with anything else I’ve been watching. It really enrages me when that happens and ruins my enjoyment of what I've been watching up to that point. :bang:

Should I watch American Horror Story?

After I finish Elementary, I'm going to try Boardwalk Empire and Homeland. I also need to catch up on the current season of Downton Abbey.

I've met so many people that don't like it and I really can't understand why, I'm watching it and it's AWESOME.
I don't hate it...just don't love it either. It's so cheesy - it's a fricking block of cheese & the characters seem so forced. I don't know, it's just not great.

Ahhhh fair enough! Sometimes cheese can be good :D

I really want to watch the new series of AHS but with no computer or anything it's a tad hard. I only watch things that James & I watch together now (on his laptop.)

I've watched the first episode of Agents of SHIELD and it's good, I just haven't really had the motive to watch the last few episodes because it's right there on demand and I've got other shows to catch up on first.

So I'm now watching on Thursdays Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, a spinoff of Once Upon a Time. I'm having a little trouble following the storyline. I have NO idea what's going on. But I like hearing the accents.

These are my feelings as well. I just can't get into it.

I attempted to watch Super Fun Night with Rebel Wilson for the second week in a row and I'm done.
