US US Politics 2024

The big day is here ...!

Let's hope the voters are able to see through the lies and are able to foil the plot of the insurrectionist, just like Guy Fawkes's Gunpowder Plot was foiled on this day in 1605!

Several youtubers I've listened to say that Trump is likely to declare victory early during the "red mirage" when rural votes (which tend to favour conservatives) have been counted, and before the urban votes have been counted. This will help create the image of a "stolen election", and spur on his supporters to attack election workers, state capitols and so on. He's not called the orange menace for nothing! But hopefully, many of the most radicalised supporters are in prison after the January 6th riots, and police/FBI are on top of the situation ...

I'm getting my news from more credible reporters but they mostly say the same.
what they are also predicting is that it will take days before the counting of votes in Pennsylvania is finished - and probably longer with the expected recounts.
and before the counting is finished Trumps attorneys will be submitting law suits in dozens of places. It might take weeks or months to finally proclaim a winner. And if it is Harris, Trump will never concede. Trump has promised violence and resistance.
If Trump wins I'm pretty sure Harris will concede. At least we will get a peace full transition of power. after that all hell breaks out. Although I feel bad for Americans in general - at least we are getting what we deserve.
The real victims will be climate change, Palestinians, Ukrainians...

I can't stand to watch the election coverage! It's just too stressful!
Same here. I have crochet videos on. I spent my career in journalism, and Election Night was always so exciting and fast-paced, and it was all hands on deck. Now, I am so stressed about the orange menace winning that I can't bear to watch a minute of it. So not like me, but in these times, I just can't do it.

I don't know why I'm surprised. I expected it but I guess my hope that it wouldn't happen was stronger, because the disappointment is so huge. I'm not even mad at him. I'm mad at the fact that people I know and love voted for this piece of 💩 and what he stands for. How do you not see these people differently? How do you overlook that? This is my biggest struggle. How can most of the country want this?

I'm starting to think there has to be a reason America needs to go through this...like we need to get knocked down a peg or two. But Again? Because we didn't learn the first time? I mean, we've had it pretty good up until 2016.

To everything turn, turn, turn...there is a season turn, turn turn...

Breathe...

I went to bed at my normal time last night. When I got up this morning and saw the news, I burst into tears. :( I am devastated. I know my mundane little life probably won't be that effected but I mourn for others. The amendments I voted for lost as well. And of course Scott won again.
:(

I am beyond devastated, and I weep for women, LGBTQ+ folks, people of color, pretty much everyone who is not a white rich guy, not to mention the planet. Hate, bigotry, misogyny and racism have won over common decency and kindness. I don't know how people who voted for that vile excuse for a human being can sleep at night. I am so not proud of my country right now.

I feel the same way...my white privilege will likely not make me be that affected. But I worry for my children and grandchildren. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹
