News US Republican candidates 2016 discussion

David Cameron said that he shouldn't be banned. David Cameron says we should invite Donald Trump to the UK because it will 'unite us all against him' | UK Politics | News | The Independent

I would like to see one of our political commentators interview DT and challenge him on his stupid views.

I think that's naïve. I'm sure there are lots of people in the UK who like Trump for the same reasons his American supporters like him - because he panders to angry, frightened white working-class Christian voters.

And I said Christian because this: He was asked to name his favorite book; he said the Bible. He quoted a verse or two. I don't know how religious he is, or not, but he was saying what his fans wanted to hear. For all we know, his favorite book could be a John le Carre novel, or Gone with the Wind, or The Cat in the Hat, or something else. But even though it's unconstitutional to require a religious test for presidential candidates, Republican voters like them better when they're "their" kind of Christian.

I realize the candidates need to adapt their opinions and policies to fit with the agenda of very wealthy supporters like Sheldon Adelson, Paul Singer, Norman Braman and others with a particular outlook on Middle East policy. So perhaps I shouldn't be surprised when these puppets say stuff like this:
Governor Chris Christie said that we need to focus our attention on Iran because, “if you miss Iran, you are not going to get ISIS. The two are inextricably connected, because one causes the other.”
How is that, exactly? Iran is as much of an enemy of ISIS as western nations are. In fact, probably much more so. Iran has actually provided "boots on the ground" to fight ISIS in both Iraq and Syria. So is it because of this that Iran "causes" ISIS? If so, how are western cruise missiles and bombing any better?
Ted Cruz said, “The regime we should change is in Iran, because Iran has declared war on us.”
Actually, no. Iran has not declared war on the US. That is actually untrue. Or, if you must be rude, it's a lie. But don't let the truth get in the way of your presidential ambitions.
(Quotes from here: Iran’s Javad Zarif on Syria, Russia, and Donald Trump - The New Yorker)

Apparently, the UK government is considering a ban on Trump entering their country, for being "non-conducive to the public good." Half a million Britons signed a petition demanding he be barred from the UK. I would think it funny, except it's really frightening how many Americans lap up what he regurgitates.

In all fairness, most of Trump's supporters don't even read, much less read Hitler's writings. I wouldn't expect them to know the quote came from Hitler, nor would I expect them to google the quote to see it really was Trump's quote. They don't think about that, nor do they think two seconds ahead of the current minute. They're all about looking backwards to a past that never existed, or that didn't exist for anyone but them.

In all fairness,
... I also would not have known that this was a Hitler quote, although I am rather more familiar with the matter than most Americans, simply for geographical reasons.

To me, that quote sounded possibly too lame to be genuine Trump ;-)

BTW, I guess you can find a lot of Hitler quotes (e.g. "Please don't smoke in here") that many people would agree with...

Ahahaha ... googling further, I found a great ressource:

^^ Re: repeated, big lies in the context of Republicans and Trump, I guess a good example is the insinuation that Obama's birth certificate was fake.

Here's a new one :)

Trump's First TV Ad Earns 'Pants On Fire' Rating, Campaign Manager Says 'No ****' When Confronted

PolitiFact says "Trump’s television ad purports to show Mexicans swarming over 'our southern border.' However, the footage used to support this point actually shows African migrants streaming over a border fence between Morocco and the Spanish enclave of Melilla, more than 5,000 miles away. We rate the claim Pants on Fire."

Meanwhile, NBC reporter Katy Tur asked Trump's campaign manager about the clear disparity, he responded with "No ****."

This is far from the first time PolitiFact has given the GOP frontrunner a "Pants on Fire" rating.

Trump's lies and falsehoods earned him PolitiFact's "Lie of the Year" award last month.

Last year they rated 76 percent of Trump's statements "Mostly False, False or Pants on Fire, out of 77 statements checked."

"No other politician has as many statements rated so far down on the dial," PolitiFact claimed.

The original article is actually quite interesting: [VIDEO]2015 Lie of the Year: the campaign misstatements of Donald Trump

That would be nice, but it's very unlikely.
I thought the same about Obama before he was first elected. In the meantime, the demographic groups that brought Obama to power in 2008 and 2012 have grown even more. The Democrats have not benefited from this in the Congress, somehow, but presidential elections are slightly different ...
