Literature What are you currently reading?

I'm reading Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes. It's brilliant, haven't read a book this good in a while. Someone told me it's kids book but I'm not sure, anyway it's great.

Then I'm going to read a definite kid's book, Coraline. I've wanted to read it for a while so I thought I'd give it a go in French. Finally something I can read in French with no difficulty! It's reassuring that I still have some left. Recommendations for any other good kids books at a similar reading level would be much appreciated!

I'm not sure I'd call either of these "kids' books," especially not Coraline. The Coraline movie was toned down a lot, and even that I wouldn't call a kids' movie.

That's not to say they're not great books. Both are spectacular. Ray Bradbury is the best, as well as Neil Gaiman.

Just finished Special Topics in Calamity Physics. I don't know how ended up picking it up, I'd never heard of it before and it has an awful cover, **** sounding blurb, kind of thing I'd usually avoid. But anyway, loved it, couldn't put it down all weekend (at cost to school work). Can't say I'd recommend it because I think most people would find it very annoying (precocious teenage narrator) but I was completely sucked in.

Also not sure what to read next, having accidentally read two Lepidoptera related thrillers in a row (the first being The Behaviour of Moths). I'm determined to keep this up for a bit but I've already read The Collector.

Currently reading the Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris. They are so trashy but it's a guilty pleasure. :D

The Works had a box set of the first 10 books for a fiver. Got them on Thursday and I've nearly finished the 9th book. I think I will be buying the rest in the series. :D

Reading The Moth Diaries which will be the last in my Lepidoptera streak because THE HERO AND THE CROWN came in.

I read this book over and over again when I was younger, loved it. Was nervous to read it as an adult, especially as I wasn't too enamoured with McKinley's vampire book. But it's EXACTLY as good as I remember. I can't remember exactly what happened but as I read it, I feel like I'm reliving every single word again. Even their position on the page feels familiar. It's books like this that make me wish I were planning to breed, just to pass them on to the next generation.

I'm half way through Human Remains by Elizabeth Haynes.

Had I known more about the subject matter before I bought this I don't think I would have. I will finish it, but I'm finding it really hard going.

I just read that the other day and I know what you mean, I had to skip paragraphs as I found it too disgusting. I really liked her first book Into the Darkest Corner.

I absolutely loved Into the Darkest Corner too so I was really pleased when I saw this and bought it for my kindle the day it came out. It's very well written, but its just a wee bit on the dark side for me.

Exactly.:) It was still very thought-provoking but just a bit too graphic for me.

Palimpset. 500 pages in and I STILL don't know what is really going on. I thought it was supposed to be about a magical city...but know I don't know WHAT it's about! so confusing.

Have finished Human Remains.

Thank god it's over

Have started a horror called Sam by Iain Rob Wright. In theory is shouldn't be a lighter read than what I've just subjected myself to, but I think it will be!

Just finished Fun Home by Alison Bechdel. AWESOME. Her style is a lot like Posy Simmons'.

Watership Down.

Because Ive never read it before despite growing up being terrified of the film. It feels really silly, is really serious toned but about bunny rabbits. Maybe if I'd read it 15 years ago would have been better haha.

Just started Wetlands by Charlotte Roche. It's completely disgusting! Definitely appeals to the 9 year old in me.

I like it.

I'm about to start Einstein's Dreams by Alan Lightman. I just finished reading the entire City Watch Discworld series.
