Literature What are you currently reading?

I always thought that stories about circus life can be interesting. Last circus story that I saw was the movie version of Water for Elephants. Unfortunately, I never read the novel.

I just finished reading Lucid Dreaming: A Concise Guide to Awakening in Your Dreams and in Your Life by Stephen Laberge. I really want to figure out how to do this on a regular basis.
Be cautious with lucid dreaming, it can be quite frightening.

I liked the book Water for Elephants but never saw the movie.

I loved that book! I kept missing my stop on the tube reading it, I was so engrossed and grossed out.

That book is ****ed up!!!

Now this is what I like to hear. I havent had much of a chance to read since I started it, but so far it does seem rather fucked up. which is generally my favourite kind of book. Unless its badly done then it just fails (Carlton Mellick Im looking at you)

Highly recommended series for those interested. Start with Wool, then Shift.

Life on Planet Rock by Lonn Friend. It's the author's experience of being a rock journalist in the 80's.Bunch of rock trivia and the author's take on numerous musicians. He also ran a metal magazine called RIP.Fascinating book!
That book was cool!

I tried to read a book called "Sweet Tooth" by Ian McEwan for my work book club, but I couldn't finish it. It was awful. The writing wasn't bad, but the story structure sucked and when I found out what the supposed payoff was, I was glad I didn't bother finish reading it. It was billed as a "spy thriller," but it resembled nothing of the sort. It was a bloated diatribe on the virtues of writing wrapped around a lame love story. Tedious is the one word that comes to mind. I highly doubt I will ever bother with anything by this author. Blech.

The next book club selection is called "The Interestings." I'm not sure I will like this one, either, given the description, but I'm going to give it a go.

Warm Bodies. The trailer for the film version massively put me off but I opened and read a sentence and knew I'd love it. It's probably supposed to be comic but it dragged on my heart so hard throughout, it's one of the saddest books I've ever read.

I must read this next summer. I have read Anne boleyn recently.
The book is good so far.I am only half way through it.

It's sort of a different perspective of Anne Boleyn's rise to fame and power because you are seeing it through Jane's eyes.Jane was ofcourse her sister-in-law and close to her when she finally became queen.I would recommend reading it if you are interested in the Boleyn history as it gives lots of details about them.

Funny. I only have lucid dreams but am not very good at actually controlling what's happening. Have you managed?

Haven't been reading at all. Just can't seem to find anything that holds my attention, so I'm rereading The Fault In Our Stars.

I'm jealous of your dreaming abilities. I have been trying to lucid dream since I read that book, but I can't seem to get it, which is really frustrating. The book came with a CD with trance induction and sleeping stuff, which I downloaded to my ipod. I've also tried to listen to some isochronic tones, but it hasn't really worked other than putting me to sleep.

I started reading Geek Love because I had read about it earlier in this thread. Haven't had much time for reading though.

How strange! Dreaming is rather interesting. Lucid dreaming is not that cool of you don't know how to control it properly. Usually if I don't like what is happening, I replay the same bit over & over trying to get it right, which doesn't work...so I have to make myself wake up. Bah. Keep trying! :D

Maddaddam by Margaret Attwood.
So far it's a lot more like Year of the Flood as opposed to Oryx and Crake. I preferred Oryx and Crake. Pout. Oh well! Also its probably a bad idea to read a sequel when you read the original book like 4 years ago and can barely remember what happened. I was too impatient to re-read it though and wanted to get started on the new one haha.
