I just finished a memoir by Myriam Gurba who is a young LGBTQ feminist. It is called "Mean" and was published in 2017. Her story is written sort of "free verse" with no actual timeline of her life. She writes with humor and honesty about sensitive subjects such as her sexual assault when she was in college. It is a small book of only 175 pages. In 2019, Oprah's magazine "O" called this book "one of the best LGBTQ books of all time."

I am just about done 800 Grapes by Laura Dave - this is just the second book of hers that I have read and I think the thing I like the most is "that I don't know what is going to happen" - in most books we know that the good guys will win, the 'new spark' will turn into love etc, it is just the 'how' it all happens that keeps us reading - here there aren't really good guys or bad guys just humans with all their frailties so I don't know what the result will be.

Finished 800 Grapes and also read her Hello Sunshine which was, again, very different as the main character was caught in a social media hoax and was interesting.

Just finished a pretty amazing sci-fi book called "Recursion" by Blake Crouch. This book was recommended by my brother and I thank him for it! If you like stories about multiple time lines and changing history, this book is for you. I have read other time line books but this one is outstanding. It is intense and the characters are likable. The writing is detailed about very technical brain stuff but is written so well you understand it (kind of!) Time stuff is complicated! This author also wrote the "Wayward Pines" trilogy which was a TV series a few years ago. I read all of those too. I am going to find his other books now!

I was able to get and start Recursion - just a few chapters in and very interesting so far - especially as I have a sister who is struggling with memory and it makes us all very sad and drives us crazy at the same time.

My step-mother suffered from Alzheimer's for the last few years of her life so this was relatable to me also. The whole thing about memories was fascinating!

speaking of Alzheimer's, years ago when my mom was suffering from dementia, the novel, Still Alice was recommended to me.
I ended up finishing the book on the train. I was crying so hard that people on the train noticed. Kind of embarrassing. also disappointing cause everyone was very intent on ignoring me.

I recently read another novel by him: "Dark Matter", which might be somewhat similar: it's about alternate universes, with people sometimes meeting up with their alternate selves. This one focussed on the main character's family and how the three of them dealt with problems, issues and threats together. I'll have to check out "Recursion" and "Wayward Pines" too!

I am reading Lindsey Kelk right now - I am not sure who recommended her or how one of her books showed up in my Holds, however I am enjoying the ones I have read so far. Still reading Recursion (in the bathroom as it is a real book, the others are on my phone).

I finished another Randy Wayne White Doc Ford book. I was able to find the very first book in the series after not really liking the one I read because I didn't know the characters. There are 25 or more books in this series so I wanted to start from the beginning. I enjoyed this one quite a lot even though it is old and many things are outdated. It was first published in 1990 and a paperback was re-issued which is why the library even had it. It is called "Sanibel Flats". There are some disturbing things concerning animal research which you can skim by. Doc Ford is a marine biologist and the work he does involves fishing and other things I won't mention. But the story was pretty good and I might read more if I run across them at the library.

I just started reading the first of "The Witcher" books after finishing both seasons of the show on Netflix. I wanted to compare and see how they might be similar/different. So far so good!

Next on my list is "On Looking" by Alexandra Horowitz, whish sounds incredibly interesting:
"Structured around a series of eleven walks the author takes, mostly in her Manhattan neighborhood, On Looking features experts on a diverse range of subjects, including an urban sociologist, the well-known artist Maira Kalman, a geologist, a physician, and a sound designer. Horowitz also walks with a child and a dog to see the world as they perceive it."

Finished "Child of Light" by Terry Brooks published in 2021. I think this is the first book I have read by this well known author. It was a pretty good fantasy/romance. It kind of bothers me when a male author writes in first person as a female character though. It was an ok book with a pretty good story of good vs evil. I just read on Goodreads that it is going to be a series but I am not sure if I care.
