I have no guns personally, but I definitely support the right for citizens to be armed. I would shoot back if attacked, but I would not strike the first blow or shoot the first bullet.

Dear Lord the drama here is just too much to take! :lol: You guys really think that Trump is Hitler, and that some mythical organized white supremecists are going to take over the United States of America.

I'm just gonna say it, consequences be damned. You're painfully backwards. Everything you believe about the good in yourself, your nonviolent doctrine and your 'moderate' right-wing belief system, is a lie you made up so you could feel better and be more comfortable despite the fact that you can't be assed to expend even the slightest bit of effort to empathize with someone outside your situation. That would be just too difficult for you. It's a lot easier to act like the people who are actually doing the legwork to make the world a better place are just silly and misguided, and maybe even they're the real fascists, because again that's easier.

I know you think you are a caring, sensitive person, but you apparently don't have the capacity to see anything beyond your comfort zone.

Mischief, I'm sorry that I kept trying to return and find the nice veg forum that used to be a sweet haven for me, and to read stuff from some other veg*ns that I count as friends. I had hoped after the election things would be back to normal, but I see VV now as hate-filled, frantic, and no longer my style. Maybe IS needs to burn some sage in this place.

I love my country, go ahead and call me a nationalist or whatever you want. And take a knee to this if it makes you feel better.

 
Also, that thing you're all sad about, thinking that's what happened to an internet forum you like? That's what has happened to the living reality of millions of people since the election. But no, they're just making **** up, right? You feeling comfortable on a forum about vegetarianism is somehow a more admirable and urgent goal than trying to help those people feel even a little bit safe again under a literal Fascist regime in progress?

Absolute fvcking nonsense. To borrow a phrase from a friend, there is no room in this country right now for doormats. I'm not particularly patriotic to begin with, but unless you believe this country's virtues include its long history of white supremacy and violence against racial, sexual, and religious minorities - rather than the ones it extolls publicly, which actually are admirable, such as freedom, democracy, and the power of the individual to make change - you're not being patriotic by lying down and accepting this **** as normal. Not in the slightest.
 
You know, if you really want to hang out and drink tea and eat cookies and chat, there are loads of threads for that. It would be easy to do.

But to come into this area, reserved for discussions of politics and serious current affairs, and then be affronted when called out because you want to let us know we're being "hysterical" for being concerned about what's going on in our country - well, that's disingenuous. In the extreme.

Well ... you DID notice so far, I presume, that, during the last 2 weeks of Mr. Twimp having taken office, everywhere around the US things are far from "going back to normal", unless you say "this is the new >>normal<<"...

I think that Led was referring to America's president who is being compared to Hitler, as well a general wave of hysteria triggered by certain individuals.

I don't think it is a good idea for American society to have more guns, surprisingly. If I lived there I assume I would want stricter gun control, not more people on the left having guns.o_O

In London we have an ongoing problem with youths and knife crime. I'm not going to run out and buy myself a hunting knife as a response. That doesn't really make any sense.

Of course I wanted to come back, I loved VV. I have come back to this area several times to see if things were still so awful: people still overreacting and feeding each others' hatred, and I see it has gotten worse. Vegans advocating violence and attacking other vegans for differing views-- we are a "doormat" and should "fvck off" if we don't go punch some idiot in the head. Smh sadly.

Guess I just have my social forum now, as those guys are funny and of many different backgrounds, ideas, and beliefs. I can keep slipping in good vegan recipes. Too bad there's really nowhere left to talk to other vegans without the background of vileness.

So breathe your sighs of relief, boys and girls. Go back to posting your links and walls of frantic text.

Ledboots - I think you should keep posting, you have as much right to your opinion as anyone else on here! I don't mind reading information or views that might challenge what I already think. There is the slightest possibility that I might not be right about everything.:p

I totally agree that the comment was not only rude, immature and inappropriate. Your comments concerning this wave of hysteria are valid ones. I've also been listening to various comments made by fellow Europeans and many people share your point of view.

You should continue posting on this forum as you have every right to do so. Moreover, you are never rude to other members.

I know VV has always leaned left, but attacks like that on a fellow vegan who didn't vote Trump, is a registered Democrat, and supported Bernie, just shows the absolute tyranny that has taken over VV. I don't advocate violence in any form, I'm a vegan and a peacenik...

I see @KLS52 posting upset and confused, I don't want to be upset like that. I have actually cried this morning, mourning my loss of VV.
