News 2016 U.S. Presidential election - the highs and lows

The Miami debate was interesting, in that the candidates got around to discussing foreign policy, particularly about here in the western hemisphere. Here's a revealing article about Secretary Clinton's role in the Honduras coup of 2009.

Hillary Lost My Vote in Honduras

President Obama initially criticized Zelaya’s ouster and forced exile as a threat to democracy throughout the region. But the Obama administration, led by then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, refused to formally recognize that a military coup had taken place and never cut U.S. military aid to Honduras. Clinton’s State Department even lobbied the Organization of American States, which strongly condemned the coup, to readmit Honduras after its suspension from the OAS. In November 2009, the Administration recognized the election of Porfirio Lobo, even though most opposition parties and major international observers boycotted the election. Since the coup, the U.S. has built two new military bases in Honduras and increased its support and funding for the Honduran military and police.

I don't get why most (not all but most) Bernie supports think he walks on water, Hillary supporters know she isn't perfect and don't pretend she is.
Bernie is very pro meat, dairy and trophy hunting. Here's a few of the more distasteful things he's done: he voted in favor of The Sportsman's Act, voted against limiting subsidies for individuals (farmers) with incomes above $750,000, voted yes on the FARM bill, dumped toxic waste.

I'm not denying he's done a lot of good things too, but everyone's acting like he's never done anything wrong.

Bernie Sanders, Animal Agribusiness Stooge?

I personally don't trust Hillary. She has been enmeshed in politics for many years and must owe tons of favors. Her campaign donations from the large corporations and super wealthy donors as well make me queasy. Not to mention the overseas donors, such as China, who are huge contributers to her and Bill's foundation. The Clintons started out pretty broke when Bill took the Oval Office and are now millionaires. And what if she is indicted criminally as a candidate, or as president?

I'm not thrilled with Bernie either, but at this point I see no althernative.

I didn't post that stuff because I'm anti-Bernie, but because most (not all) of his supporters only know whatever the latest meme says. I wanted to show he's not all rainbows and butterflies like the memes would have you believe. I looked into the pros and cons of both, and for me I feel safer with Hillary, but if Bernie gets the nomination, I will vote for him.

1. Nobody's perfect.

2. Nobody gets anywhere in politics (or business) by being an angel.

People who act as though their favored candidate walks on water are either naive or disingenuous.

Hillary Clinton thinks that Nancy Reagan and her husband started a national conversation about AIDS.
[T]he people who really started the conversation were not low-key. They were not polite. They were not quiet in any way. They staged die-ins. They shut down streets. They threw the cremated ashes of their loved ones, already killed by Aids, over the fence of the White House to demand action.

The corporate media is referring to the shindig in Chicago as chaos. That's not chaos, that's progress.

This made me realize that I was wrong when I said I wanted Trump to get the nomination solely to snub Ted Cruz' bid. We make the assumption that if Trump gets the nomination that he can't win against Clinton or Sanders, much in the same way Republicans made the assumption that Trump couldn't possibly become the party's nominee. Now it's clear to me that Donald Trump is a dangerous lunatic that brings out the very worst in people and gives these people his blessings to behave like monsters.

I hate Cruz with a fiery passion but I am now of the opinion that it is crucial that Trump is stopped ASAP

The problem is that Cruz will use religion and the evangelicals to foment hate, so the net effect will be the same.

Does anyone have a slow cousin with a shotgun? :p

As I said I hate Ted's stinking teabagger guts... But these recent developments with Trump has really shaken me

At a rally today in Dayton, a protester jumped a barrier and ran at Trump onstage, surprising him, before the Secret Service could escort him out (the protester, not Trump.) Trump's response: "I was ready for him, but it's much easier if the cops do it."

I think Trump is showing what a panty-waist he is, and that he has no leadership ability. His abandonment of his supporters yesterday, in essence playing one faction against the other- a common power tactic- is the worst move he could have made. It's becoming more and more difficult to imagine him being elected. He may be able to buy control of the GOP, but I don't think he can buy the presidency.

Interesting to see it was a combination of Bernie Sanders supporters (some 200 apparently), Black Lives Matter activists, Univ of Illinois and Univ of Chicago students and "diverse progressive groups". Agent provocoteurs involved?
The happiest people were probably the old guard of the GOP.

This is a bit off topic, but has anyone ever registered to vote at one of those tables set up by people outside grocery stores etc. Are these legit? I need to re-register. Thanks.

Not I. I'm sure they're legit, but if you want to make sure you re-register properly, you can always go to the post office or DMV and get a form there. You might even be able to re-register online; I'm not sure.

Bernie Sanders, Animal Agribusiness Stooge?

... and this is where they lose me....

To be clear, we certainly don't expect Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump to take animals' lives more seriously than Sanders. But it is precisely because of his willingness to do the right thing -- regardless of what special interests, or even the majority of Americans think -- that we are so disappointed by Sanders's capitulation to the industry.

So they reject Bernie Sanders because he has the exact same position as the others on the subject of animal rights, but they would expect him to be better, as he is better on most other issues?
Is that for real?
