News 2016 U.S. Presidential election - the highs and lows

Some anecdotal evidence ... I met a US colleague and had the time to talk to him about his views of the upcoming US election. He told me that he himself, while being the most liberal person in his family, still considered himself a conservative and was properly dismayed about the current incredibly poor choice in potential Republican presidential candidates.

His final verdict was "Well, if the Democrats nominate Hillary Clinton, I might go and vote for Trump" - although he certainly was not in any way enamored with Mr. Trump's views and behaviour. He simply mentioned that he was quite fed up with the way current politics are rigged. (I have not yet been able to ask him what he would do in case of Bernie Sanders getting nominated as Democratic candidate. Will try to find that out)

Last night (the 13th,) Sen. Sanders drew a record breaking crowd at a rally in Washington Square Park in lower Manhattan. 8-years ago, then-Senator Obama attracted 24,000 people to the same place for a rally. Estimates for last night range as low as 27,000, but the NYPD suggests the turnout may have been much bigger.

Thousands turn out for Bernie Sanders New York rally ahead of primary – as it happened

The Battle For New York continues tonight, with the Democratic debate in Brooklyn, which can be streamed live at CNN.com at 9pm EDT.

I just saw this on YouGov.

YouGov | Europe would elect Hillary Clinton by a landslide

That yougov.com is a market research firm that hires out to anyone with enough cash to pay, primarily big corporations. It has a pool of respondents it pays to answer their surveys. From their website-

"What kind of rewards are offered for participating in surveys?
When you take surveys you accumulate points which can later be redeemed for rewards. There are a number of options in our rewards center like: tote bags, t-shirts and PrePaid Gift Cards. PrePaid Gift Cards include brands such as VISA, Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart and iTunes to name a few. See our Rewards page for a complete list."

This is more dirty politics, a rigged parlay. I wouldn't be surprised if Hillary herself hired them to produce these results.

This is very similar to the 'scientific research' that came out several months ago, and was plastered all over the corporate media, that "proved" vegan hot dogs actually contain real meat. It was all designed to put the kibosh on the sale of vegan products.

Yougov.com is not the same 'research' company, but, like the other one, you can bet it's owned by investment speculators, as a tool for manipulating markets. And apparently, they have inroads with the media, to get publicity when it's to their advantage. For enough money, anyone can hire them to produce whatever results are desired. It's ********.

This doesn't figure into the election directly, but I have to wonder how it may affect Catholic voters. Sen. Sanders is at the Vatican today, where he will speak on income inequality and climate change.

I think most Europeans (who are better educated the most Americans) are better at seeing through the BS, and aren't swayed by which supporters shout the loudest.

I think it is just Europe is more liberal and Clinton is one big famous Democrat...and wat Beancounter said, maybe.

Bernie Sanders did something previously unheard of in last night's CNN debate: He stood up for Palestinians' humanity.

"As somebody who is 100 percent pro-Israel, in the long run," Sanders said, "we are going to have to treat the Palestinian people with respect and dignity."
More: Bernie Sanders just shattered an American taboo on Israel (15. March 2016)

I didn't watch that debate, but there are some interesting observations and predictions in that article.

I was surprised that Ted Cruz would even get 2% of the vote on the YouGov poll.:D I hope people just voted for him because they didn't really know anything about his views.o_O

Well, the fact that they think Hillary would be more effective at combating climate change leads me to doubt this...
