News 2016 U.S. Presidential election - the highs and lows

I can't wait until the debates - assuming they actually occur, since Trump may come up with a hundred reasons to avoid them. He knows Hillary will destroy him.

US election: Ted Cruz booed for failing to back Donald Trump - BBC News
Texas Senator Ted Cruz was booed as he failed to endorse Donald Trump as the US Republican nominee, during a speech at the party convention in Cleveland.

Mr Cruz only went as far as congratulating the man who had been his bitter rival in the primary contests.

But Mr Cruz is likely to steal the headlines after stoking the rage of the convention, to such an extent that his wife Heidi had to be escorted from the floor.

A former colleague of Ted Cruz's once told me that the one unforgivable sin in the Texas senator's mind is to insult or demean Rafael Cruz, Ted Cruz's father. Donald Trump did that toward the end of the presidential primary campaign, questioning whether the elder Cruz had ties to John Kennedy's assassination. And on Wednesday night, before a national audience on the Republican Party's biggest stage, the Texas senator got his revenge.

The photo of the Trump family during Cruz's speech was priceless.

Just to take back the spotlight, Trump says US may abandon automatic protections for Nato countries - BBC News
Donald Trump has said that if he is elected president he may abandon a guarantee of protection to fellow Nato countries.

Without the US NATO would fall apart. Maybe Putin could offer Western Europe his protection? :)

OTOH...

Maybe he's discounting or overlooking Hillary's campaign strategy. She's using Obama's old campaign playbook.

One sentence shows why Hillary Clinton will win this election.

I don't know if signing up Pokemon Go players is enough to actually WIN the election, but yes, she's learning how to tap into Millennial trends, at least. Obama was able to create a network of young voters thanks to his then-innovative use of the Internet and social media, but he was OBAMA. Hillary isn't Obama.

So true!

I don't like Ted Cruz. At all. However, I would think even less of him, if he had endorsed Trump after what Trump said about his wife and his father. There are simply things for which one cannot expect forgiveness (not that Trump has even ever apologized).

Those who have fallen into line after repeated personal attacks by Trump - yuck.

IMO, if Trump were to win the election, we would see one of two things happening in fairly short order - either a real constitutional crisis, or Trump walking off in a huff after he realizes it's the presidency, not an absolute dictatorship. The man has no concept whatsoever of what the position entails.

Interesting times, indeed. Sigh.

Kaine sounds like nothing more than a good ad campaign. We need progress to last the next four years after the election.
I was so hoping for Cory Booker- than I could actually vote dem instead of voting against Trump
I'm so disgusted by all of this-
Where are the third party candidates? I want Bernie back...
On a lighter note, I'm so crazy proud of my city of CLEVELAND!
