News 2016 U.S. Presidential election - the highs and lows

It's official: Tim Kaine is picked as Hillary's running mate.

Here are six things you probably don’t know about VP pick Tim Kaine

I'm hoping @Poppy can provide some personal thoughts on Hillary's choice, since she's from Virginia and would be somewhat familiar with Kaine and his wife.

I'm thrilled!!! I actually know Anne Holton and have spoken to Tim a few times over the years at community events. He's a genuinely nice guy with a heart for people. He's down to earth. When he came to Richmond, his family joined a mostly black Catholic Church because he wanted to belong to a congregation where he could really get to know people and make a difference. Anne is a delight. Her focus has always been on children, especially those who are disadvantaged or disabled (which is how I know her.) I hope Tim is president one day.

Hey Poppy, I'm glad so glad to hear that! I was getting warning emails about Kaine being against abortion rights and sounding more on the conservative side than any of the others. I've read up and feel better about the ticket. With all the craziness someone "safe" should be a good thing!

Yeah I had initially heard that too, silva. There's a lot of misinformation out there to put it nicely. But then see that he's received good grades from Pro-Choice groups, and Planned Parenthood. From all that I've been able to read about him, Tim seems like a pretty good guy. It seems like Hilary made a solid choice that may well help her win this.

I watched the Clinton/Kaine speech today. Very impressed. I think she made the right choice.

Democratic chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz steps down on eve of convention
US election: Democrats' chair steps aside amid email row - BBC News
Debbie Wasserman Schultz, long under fire for the appearance of partiality toward Hillary Clinton in the Democratic presidential primaries, will step down as the party's national chairwoman at the end of its convention this week, she announced Sunday.

The announcement came after internal emails newly disclosed by Wikileaks revived the long-running suspicions of supporters of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders that the Florida congresswoman had tilted the scales in favor of Hillary Clinton.

Case against Trump University should move forward, judge rules
A federal judge indicated Friday that he would allow a lawsuit by former customers of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s now-defunct real estate program, Trump University, to move forward.

In a tentative oral ruling on a motion to dismiss the case, U.S. District Court Judge Gonzalo Curiel said the plaintiffs had met the legal requirements to move forward and have a jury decide if Trump “participated in a scheme to defraud” people who signed up for the seminars — some at a cost of about $35,000.

She asked where the third party candidates were so I was answering that. I won't tell anyone who to vote for but I won't vote for the lesser of 2 evils just because they have a better chance. And actually depending on the topic, I'm not sure which of the 2 with a "chance" is the lesser of the evils.

I won't be voting for the mainstream candidates, either. My state has already gone to the reality star with no political experience. However, I think it's important to follow FiveThirtyEight.com because they accurately predict these kinds of things.

Well, Jer & I watched quite a bit of the DNC-Con last night.... I especially enjoyed the easily-5-minute standing-o eruption of Sanders supporters.... they brought the friggin' house down!!

Anyhoo, I just spent far too long getting this pic cut, cropped, resized, etc... couldn't find the picture anywhere online (too recent, maybe?), so I just scanned it from my latest issue of The Hightower Lowdown (vol. 18, #7, July 2016)....

My take on Gary Johnson if anyone GAF: Looks like a good candidate up until learning his stance on things like Social Security, Medicaid/Medicare, social programs, and taxes (i.e "FairTax" bs)... Which makes the guy a real stinker, typical greedy "What's mine is mine" Libertarian.
