News 2016 U.S. Presidential election - the highs and lows

So America's first black president who made sure millions of Americans have health coverage, took out Osama bin Laden (something his predecessor failed at), reversed the Great Recession and added thousands of jobs, restored diplomacy with Cuba, and currently has an approval rating of 55%, considerably more than the 22% approval rating Bush had upon leaving the White House, is neither successful or inspiring to you? What planet do you live on?

For every person Obamacare helped, several more lost coverage or were priced out of being able to afford coverage. It's a freaking joke. And where are all these jobs he created, because I need one.

When the kids and the spouse are just along for the ride, then yes, people should lay off. However, the three elder Trump children are NOT children - they are full grown adults who actively seek the spotlight (even before this campaign) and are Trump's most active surrogates. In that capacity, they are no less "fair game" than the candidate himself, or, for that matter, any other attention seeking celebrity.

As for the trophy hunting - I just find it interesting, what you choose to overlook just because the father's anti-immigrant and/or anti-Muslim views resonate with you.

Don't forget to throw in the cousins and the neighbours.

That's an interesting observation. It would seem that we're all going to live happily ever after as from the 9 th of November.

What Went Wrong For Gary Johnson | FiveThirtyEight There seem to be quite a few Libertarian/Gary Johnson supporters on American forums I'm on.

Shyvas, do you actually agree with a lot of what Donald Trump says/his policies, or do you just dislike Hillary Clinton?o_O From what I've read elsewhere it seems like some people dislike her so much so they want to vote against her, rather than they actually like him.

I think this is the case with one of my coworkers. The mere mention of Hillary's name sets her off into a frenzy of disgust and loathing. She has said several times, " it doesn't matter what Donald Trump has said and/or done, Hillary is the devil".

 I think it must be true for some voters over there. His policies aren't even really Republican either so you would think that would turn off traditional Republicans.

Firstly, I have always believed that HRC will win the presidential election. Secondly, I think that both candidates should have been given a fair chance to win. This is not happening and the mainstream media are for HRC. Her track record is surprisingly bad for a candidate. However, she does have a lot of experience and benefits from her husband's ties as a former president. I honestly do not believe in most of what she is promising and will not fulfil her role as leader of the greatest nation in the world. History will tell but as the very first woman to be elected I think that she will disappoint many. The bubble will burst when she sheds her true colours.

I didn't realise that a non politician could run in a presidential election and was very surprised by Trump's nomination. I know very little about DT and all I have read about him is that he has built up a huge empire.
I have watched all the debates, listened to many of his speeches as well as the many election TV programmes. I think that he has made many mistakes by not listening to his advisors and his stubborn and overflowing personality will certainly be his downfall. However, all his plans as far as the economy and security for the US is far from being illogical.

Having said that I do agree that these two candidates are the most unpopular in history. However, one of them will become the president. I'm really pleased that I do not have to make a decision and vote for one of them.

I'm having a difficult time with the general anti Trump and anti Republican theme that is on virtually all the news channels.
When his family is being attacked, I find that it is very unfair. Nobody is perfect especially people that are in power. I would simply have liked to have seen a fairer race and comments that are less bais. I would imagine that a Republican would have got slammed on this thread. Everyone has a right to voice their opinion and political views without being treated as an anti muslim and racist.

In real life, I know both Democtrats and Republicans and have no problem whatsoever discussing the election.

Well, if the cousins and the neighbors are all over TV, being surrogates for their candidate, then sure, they are fair game for criticism. Even more so if they have spent a fair amount of their adult lives seeking out celebrity.

I seem to recall that you haven't historically been shy about expressing your opinion about various people in the news, even people who haven't sought out the limelight, but rather have had it cast upon them by reason of having been caught up in a crime or other tragedy.

And for the record, I will never hesitate to criticize trophy hunters, even the ones who don't seek publicity. I'm not going to post photos, since most of the people in this thread don't need to see those pictures, but I urge you to google either or both of the Trump sons by name with the word "hunt", and see for yourself exactly who you continue to defend.

As to your last sentence, I don't engage in magical thinking. On November 9, if Hillary wins, the Republicans are going to continue to be as obstructionist as they have been. They've already said as much.

But, if you're living in a house that needs a lot of repairs, and mom and dad are squabbling so much that they can't/won't agree on what repairs to spend money, the answer is not to hire an arsonist to burn the house down.

Well the answer isn't to hire a crook that's skilled at talking their way out of conviction and/or has friends in the local police department and court system.

I really had to laugh when she gave credit to Lincoln for being two faced, and no one called her out.

I agree. I am by no means a Trump supporter but he is getting raked over the coals by the media while they ignore everything Clinton does or says. Just like Johnson. Barely gave him any coverage until he started getting more well known, and then the only thing they cover is the 1 or 2 times he makes a mistake or says something he shouldn't. Clinton's made her share of gaffes but those don't get picked up by mainstream media and talked about for days on end.

A republican would get slammed on this thread, just as I do if I post anything about Johnson. But I would expect this board to mostly be HC supporters so I hold no hard feelings. :p But the freaking media should be unbiased, period. And for the record, I know many people IRL who are voting Trump and they are NOT anti-muslim or racist. Most would rather someone else have gotten the nomination but they have their reasons for voting for him since he's it.

And just because I can't resist since IMO both of the front runners are awful . . .

Yes. Hillary Clinton. No proof whatsoever of any wrongdoing in her charities. No proof with Benghazi, either. Has never tried to grope or rape anyone. Has never tried pay-for-play.

Yes, she had pneumonia on the campaign trail, but SHE RECOVERED FROM IT. She went to Ground Zero DESPITE feeling ill because she wanted to pay her respects. She's not freaking DYING.

Try something other than ridiculous Republican talking points to support a candidate, who, by the way, is collapsing in the polls and won't get to be the "spoiler" that he hoped to be. Same thing with Jill Stein.

The corporate media never refers to Trump as a bigot, racist or fascist, and never refers to Clinton as a war criminal. It should. Every time.
